Euro 2024 Tips – Quarterfinals

SPAIN VS GERMANY
Spain to Qualify & Both Teams to Score $3.34

Host nation Germany face the tournament’s form side Spain, in a contest fitting for the Euro 2024 Final.

Spain is the only side remaining in the tournament with a perfect record (4W), scoring nine goals to one across their four fixtures.

Meanwhile, Germany have been largely impressive themselves, winning three of four games (1D), scoring 10 goals across the trip.

La Roja are undefeated in a competitive fixtures against Germany since 1988 (3W,3D), a run which includes a 6-0 victory on the final match-day of the 2020/21 UEFA Nations League.

I’m taking the Spaniards to progress at the expense of the host, but not without conceding during regular time.

PORTUGAL VS FRANCE
Draw 0-0 $6.50

Portugal meet France in the second quarterfinal, with both sides yet to find their best form this tournament.

Portugal scraped through their Round of 16 clash against Slovenia, with their keeper Diogo Costa making three straight saves in the penalty shootout, a new Euro record.

Costa’s heroic performance saved Ronaldo’s blushes, who pissed a pen in extra time, which likely would’ve won the game for Portugal.

They’ll be taking on a French side who have been solely reliant on their defence, conceding once across four games, while scoring just three themselves, two of which were own goals and the other was from the penalty spot.

Portugal have failed to score in three of their last four games against France, two of which games finished 0-0 after regular time.

Portugal have also kept three clean sheets this tournament.

All signs are pointing towards a contest dominated by defence here, and I’ll be tipping it as such.

I’m backing regular time to finish 0-0.

ENGLAND VS SWITZERLAND
Draw $3.05

Despite performing well below their best, England continue to find a way to progress through this tournament.

The Three Lions pulled victory from the jaws of defeat in the Round of 16, with Jude Bellingham equalising with a bicycle-kick in the fifth minute of injury time against Slovakia, before Kane nodded home the winner in extra time.

They’ll face a Swiss side who saw off the defending champions Italy last time out, scoring two unanswered goals.

That victory was Switzerland’s first against the Italians in 11 attempts dating back to 1993, a feat they will need to repeat again here, with their last win against England coming 11 games and 42 years ago!

England have drawn their last three games in this tournament, while only just squeezing past Serbia 1-0 in the opener.

Similarly, Switzerland have drawn two of their four contests, while also sharing the points in nine of their last 15 internationals (5W,1L).

I’m backing the scores to be locked after regular time, with the winner to be crowned in extra time or on pens.

NETHERLANDS VS TURKEY
Netherland to Progress & Gakpo to Score $2.91

The quarterfinals wrap up on Sunday morning (AEST), when the Netherlands meet Turkey in Berlin.

Turkey made it to this spot after stunning the tournament’s form side, Austria, scoring twice via corner kicks, while somehow restricting their opponents to one goal from 21 shots.

The Netherlands defence will be better equipped to deal with Turkey’s set-piece threats, with Premier League studs Van Dijk and Nathan Ake calling the shots.

The Dutch blew Romania out of the water in their round of 16 match-up, scoring three unanswered goals, while holding onto 61% of possession.

Once again, Cody Gakpo played a starring role up top for the Oranje, scoring his third goal of the tournament before turning provider for Donnell Malen.

I’m backing Turkey’s fairytale run to come to an end, with the Netherlands to progress through to the semi-finals, combined with another Gakpo goal.
