Bronzed Aussies – Paris Edition

Bronzed Aussies – Paris Edition

We here at Neds are shaking things up for Paris with the most unique, yet most Aussie tips going around with BRONZED AUSSIES.

Throughout each and every day of the games, we’ll be picking the Aussie athletes we reckon are going to bring home the Bronze.

Any medal is a great honour and there’s nothing more Australian than a Bronzed Aussie.

So be sure to swing by this page every single day during the ‘limps and let’s make it BRONZE! BRONZE! BRONZE! FOR AUSTRALIA!

DAY 16 – Sunday 11 August

CYCLING: Men’s Kierin
Matthew Richardson @ $5.80

I’ll be the first to admit I know next to nothing about how the Kierin works but I know Matthew Richardson is a very good cyclist.

He’s already won a bronze for Australia in Paris and has a World Championship silver in this event in 2023.

Let’s have one final play on the 25-year-old to round out our Bronzed Aussies.

DAY 15 – Saturday 10 August

DIVING: Men’s 10m Platform
Cassiel Rousseau @ $5.20

Look, we know the Chinese divers are ridiculously good, but the good news for the 23-year-old Aussie Cassiel Rousseau is that there are only two competing in this event.

Cao Yuan and Yang Hao are on top of this market for a reason but it’s a wide open field and our man is a great chance to make it onto the podium here.

He won the 2023 World Championships and will be eager to improve on an eighth place finish from Tokyo.

DAY 14 – Friday 9 August

MARATHON SWIMMING: Men’s 10km
Nicholas Sloman @ $12.50

If we’re in on one, why not go in on the other with the open water swimming events.

Sloman is the shortest priced Aussie in the market and the 26-year-old will be looking to finish on the podium here.

He’s managed a medal in each of the last two world championships as a part of a team but now he is on his own and we have the confidence he can land us another bronze medal.

CANOEING: Men’s Kayak Doubles 500m
Green-Van Der Westhuyzen @ $3.80

The Aussie duo are favourites in this market for a reason and we’re backing them to bring home the bronze in this event.

They made it straight through to the Semis with a win in their heat, beating the outright favourites in this market.

Doing that twice might be a big ask but backing them for a bronze is right in their wheelhouse.

DAY 13 – Thursday 8 August

MARATHON SWIMMING: Women’s 10km
Moesha Johnson @ $10.00

Apparently the 1500m in the pool wasn’t a tough enough endurance event for Johnson and she has taken her talents to the open water.

She is coming off a fourth in the World Championships earlier this year which secured her spot on the team for this event.

With the support of fellow Aussie Chelsea Gubecka (who is also in contention for a medal), Johnson looks like our best chance for a bronzed Aussie in the open water events.

DAY 12 – Wednesday 7 August

SKATEBOARDING: Men’s Park
Kieran Woolley @ $8.75

Australia has a pair of medal hopes in the park event and we’re not going to jump on the outright favourite Keegan Palmer.

Instead we’re going to look at Kieran Woolley who is a proper medal chance in his own right.

He finished fifth in Tokyo and he has produced a number of podium finishes in various events over the last three years.

ATHLETICS: Men’s Discus Throw
Matthew Denny @ $4.25

Denny was 0.05m away from a bronze in Tokyo and since then he has gone on to claim gold in the Commonwealth Games in 2022 and Diamond League in 2023.

Then in 2023 he set a new Australian record with a throw of 68.24m which would have been enough for a silver in Tokyo.

Factor in that natural improvement and he is well placed to nab a bronze in Paris.

DAY 11 – Tuesday 6 August

SKATEBOARDING: Women’s Park
Ruby Trew @ $4.10

We’re hoping that our dreams come Trew that two Aussies will pick up medals in this event with both Arisa and Ruby strong chances in this field.

Arisa is in contention for gold and Trew has every chance of coming away with the bronze with those ahead of her in the market no sure thing.

One medal would be nice, but a double podium finish would be phenomenal for these two skateboarders.

CYCLING: Men’s Team Track
Australia @ $3.20

The Aussies might have missed a medal in this event at the Tokyo games but they are ready to come back with a vengeance here in Paris.

Perhaps adding to their motivation is the fact they lost out on the bronze to the French, who they would surely love to upset here.

DAY 10 – Monday 5 August

ATHLETICS: Men’s Pole Vault
Kurtis Marschall @ $7.75

Some of the picks for this series write themselves and this is one of them.

Marschall has a pair of golds from the Commonwealth Games but his recent form, hitting 5.95m in the 2023 World Championships was enough for bronze there and he knocked off many of the same rivals he will face in this field.

He is a much better shot than his price and we’ll have a punt on him picking up another bronze.

DAY 9 – Sunday 4 August

CYCLING: Women’s Road Race
Grace Brown @ $17.00

We’re going big for the middle Sunday and backing the time trial winner Grace Brown to add a bronze to her Paris medal collection.

She does have some form in previous road race outings and while it’s not her specialty, we’re not looking for outright winners here.

Brown is definitely a chance to make it onto the dais and become another proud Bronzed Aussie.

SWIMMING: Women’s 50m Freestyle
Shayna Jack @ $4.40

To round out our tips from the pool, we’re dipping back into the Shayna Jack well hoping she can leave us with a bronzed hue from this splash and dash.

After being stunned in the 100m free, Jack will be able to take out some frustration on this one lap sprint to the finish.

She is our best hope for a medal (at least going off the market) and given you can probably throw a blanket over the final field, let’s throw a bet in her direction.

DAY 8 – Saturday 3 August

SWIMMING: Men’s 100m Butterfly
Matthew Temple @ $6.75

In the mad dash of the 100m fly, it’s going to be a wide open race and Matthew Temple is a strong shout to make it on to the podium.

You can just about pencil in Caleb Dressel for the gold, but beyond that it is going to be a battle amongst the rest of the field for the podium.

The 25-year-old Aussie is yet to pick up a medal in an individual event but the Oceana record holder is all set for a big showing in Paris.

SWIMMING: Women’s 800m Freestyle
Ariane Titmus @ $3.45 OR Lani Pallister @ $6.00

Not only does Australia have a couple of competitors in this event, they have a couple of legitimate medal chances.

We can only say so much more about how good Ariane Titmus is, she is the only one in terms of pricing that is being given a hope of challenging the dominant Katie Ledecky for gold.

Chances are the American will do what she is seemingly obligated to and win the race, which will leave Titmus and Lani Pallister competing for the other spots on the podium.

If there is one thing to count on for Pallister, it’s that she will be eager to put on a better showing than she did in the 1500m and the Aussies rounding out the podium behind Ledecky is a strong chance (although we wouldn’t object to a Titmus gold and Pallister bronze).

DAY 7 – Friday 2 August

ROWING: Women’s Pair
Australia @ $3.40

Some say that you cannot catch a Dutch duo in a rowboat… or at least that’s what the Neds market for this event is telling us.

Nobody has been able to get near them so far, winning their heat by 4.7 seconds and their semi by a similar margin.

Which does not bode well for the Aussie duo who look like they will be racing the Romanians and Americans in a battle for second (or third).

Although, we will be more than satisfied if they can cruise home in third place at this price!

DAY 6 – Thursday 1 August

ATHLETICS: 20km Women’s Race Walk
Jemima Montag @ $5.00

Australia’s best medal hope in the men’s or women’s race walking event is Melburnian Jemima Montag, who is looking to improve on her sixth place finish from Tokyo.

In 2024 she has already set a PB in this event and has been prepating all year for the games.

She is the fourth favourite in the overall market and she should be in the mix for a podium finish while walking around Paris.

SWIMMING: Women’s 200m Butterfly
Elizabeth Dekkers @ $4.25

Reigning Commonwealth Games champion Dekkers produced a silver medal performance in the World Championships in this event last year and she should provide a stern test for favourite Summer McIntosh here.

Admittedly she was a full 1.4 seconds behind the Canadian phenom on the night and it might be a similar story here.

Regan Smith from the USA was the third place-getter in that one but does look better prepared for this race and Tokyo winner Zhang Yufei who did not feature in that final is also expected to be in the mix for a medal here.

We haven’t seen much bronze for Australia in the pool yet but Dekkers might be the one to add to that tally.

DAY 5 – Wednesday 31 July

TRIATHLON: Men’s Individual
Matthew Hauser @ $12.00

This tip was originally written for when it was supposed to happen on Tuesday until the water quality for the swim leg caused a postponement, so let’s try again.

2024 has been quite good for the leading Aussie triathlete Matthew Hauser.

He has two wins and a second from his three starts, putting him in good stead for the games here in Paris.

But he is going to be facing some stiff competition in this field including joint favourites Alex Yee and Hayden Wilde, not to mention local boy Leo Bergere.

A bronze would be a pretty damn good effort for the guy with 29 podiums in his career.

CYCLING: Men’s BMX Freestyle
Logan Martin @ $4.00

Needless to say Martin has had an eventful build up with his car getting broken into in Belgium last week, but’s certainly an experienced competitor.

Among other things, he has the gold from three years ago to his name but you can’t help but wonder if he might not be performing at his peak.

Add in the fact that there’s some good competition in his division and the bronze might turn out to be an achievement to be pleased with.

SWIMMING: Women’s 100m Freestyle
Shayna Jack @ $4.80

After her stunning win in the 200m freestyle, you would expect Mollie O’Callaghan’s sights to be set on the gold rather than the bronze.

But her teammate Shayna Jack, who was a part of the relay winning team on Saturday morning, will be targeting a medal and she might just be able to sneak onto the podium in this event.

While not quite the level of the games in Paris, she did manage to finish with a bronze in the Commonwealth Games two years ago so she knows how to finish in the top three.

SWIMMING: Women’s 1500m Freestyle
Lani Pallister @ $5.00

Let’s call this event for what it is, a race for second (and third) behind the superstar American Katie Ledecky.

Sydney-born Pallister was third home in the 2022 World Championships behind Ledecky so she does have form at this distance and against this competition.

Perhaps she might just find a way on to the podium in this race to add another medal to her collection.

DAY 4 – Tuesday 30 July

SWIMMING: Women’s 100m Backstroke
Kaylee McKeown @ $4.60

We’d all love for one of the breakout stars from Tokyo to go for gold, but she’s got her work cut out for her in a tough field.

McKeown is going to land on the podium and the gold ($2.25) should be her target but the value on the bronze is well worth having a little something on as a consolation.

Either way, her post race interview will be must watch TV.

SWIMMING: Men’s 4x200m Freestyle Relay
Australia @ $5.20

Picking the winners is not always as simple as finding where the Aussies are third favourites in the outright market, but sometimes that just makes the most sense.

Starting behind Britain and the US, the Aussies appear to be racing China and South Korea for that last spot on the podium.

They’ve got the team to do it and we’ll back them to bring home the bronze.

DAY 3 – Monday 29 July

DIVING: Men’s Synchronised 10m Platform
Australia @ $4.40

We’re heading back to the pool to kick off our Day 3 Bronze pursuit and the Aussie duo in the platform diving could get us off to a winning start at a nice price.

The gold is going to China, that seems about as close to a certainty as it can be without actually being guaranteed to happen.

Britain appears to be the next best team in the field but the Aussies should only have to upset the Mexican team to sneak onto the platform.

I believe in you guys!

EQUESTRIAN: Mixed Eventing Team
Australia @ $8.75

We’re going big here, the Aussies are at a massive price but are we really sure that all of the top four teams are going to avoid a choke?

Anything is possible and the Aussies have a decent history in the Equestrian events here.

SWIMMING: Women’s 200m Freestyle

Spare a thought for Mollie O’Callaghan, she made the team by setting the World Record in the Aussie qualifiers last month.

Or more accurately, she would have set the record were it not for her teammate and the dominant force that is Ariane Titmus.

Realistically the gold for this event is coming home on an Aussie, it’s just a question of which one and I’m not backing against Titmus.

DAY 2 – Sunday 28 July

SKATEBOARDING: Women’s Street
Chloe Covell @ $5.00

Teen phenom Chloe Covell is one of the best medal chances for the Aussie team as she takes to the course on Sunday night (AEST).

While some of her teammates are old enough to be her parent, Covell’s youthful enthusiasm should see her onto the podium.

You can back her to win gold at $5.50 or as we’re doing, backing her to bring that bronze home at just about the same price.

SWIMMING: Women’s 100m Butterfly
Emma McKeon @ $7.50

Our best bronze hope on Day 2 in the pool comes in the shape of Emma McKeon.

She did salute with the bronze in this event three years ago and her current price in the market makes her a decent shout as we search for some value on Sunday night.

Given she is juggling both freestyle and butterfly once again, a bronze here would be a phenomenal effort we would salute.

DAY 1 – Saturday 27 July

CYCLING: Women’s Time Trial
Grace Brown @ $2.75

It’s a busy opening day for the Aussie medal chances and we’re hopping on a bike to pedal for bronze first up.

Perhaps it is fitting that we’re taking the third favourite in the gold medal market to finish third overall in this time trial.

Brown has finished top three in the time trial stages during the Giro D’Italia and Bretagne Ladies Tour in the last couple of months.

She only needs to improve one spot on her Tokyo performance and that is certainly something she is capable of here.

SWIMMING: Men’s 400m Freestyle
Elijah Winnington @ $3.25

He might not be able to live up to his surname against a tough field that features Lukas Martens from Germany and fellow Aussie Sam Short but Elijah can give us a Day 1 Winnington by picking up a beautiful bronze in this event.

Having missed out on a medal three years ago, Winnington looks like a solid option to find his way onto the podium in this event.

SWIMMING: Men’s 4x100m Freestyle Relay

Heading into the event as second favourites to win gold, our Aussie team is favoured in the far more important market (for this tip anyway).

Let’s be honest, as much fun as it would be for the Americans to choke in the final, they are probably going to win this one in a canter, so let’s not worry about the silver and go straight to the bronze.

Who beats the Aussies home to take the silver?

Who cares, we want the bronze!
