Morphettville Tips & Preview – Saturday, June 8

RACE 1 12.02PM – CANADIAN CLUB MAIDEN PLATE BETTING ODDS (1250 METRES)
No. 6 Six Stars

Very even maiden to open the card at Morphettville, I have landed with Six Stars on top as he produced an encouraging effort last start behind Nicish, I have that marked as the strongest recent performance coming into this race.

He is short enough in the market now and I wouldn’t be tumbling into the short price just yet but he should be able to get the job done, this is a low confidence play.

RACE 2 12.37PM – SPORTSBET HANDICAP BETTING ODDS (2250 METRES)
No. 4 Dixie Whistler

We find another staying race here at Morphettville, I have found they are very hard races to assess even though most horses seem to race against eachother week in and week out, I have landed on Dixie Whistler, she looks well placed and should be favourite in my opinion, she looks to get a lovely run just in behind the speed.

She gets 2kg off her back with Alana Livesy taking the reigns, she looks well suited and it might be her turn on Saturday.

RACE 3 1.12PM – SPORTSBET SAME RACE MULTI HANDICAP BETTING ODDS (1250 METRES)
No. 1 Master Montaro

I have landed on the Victorian here in Master Montaro, he clearly has the best figures for this race, he carries weight well and over the 1250m it is not too much of a concern.

The Hayes boys have a great record when crossing the border to SA, he is the class runner of the field, Todd Pannell to take the ride and he gets a good draw to go with it, looks mighty hard to beat.

RACE 4 1.47PM – WINNING EDGE HANDICAP BETTING ODDS (1400 METRES)
No. 3 Maracourt

Maracourt hasn’t had much luck his last two starts, two back he was tragically beaten here and last start he fought on hard to just go down late to the in form Outta Compton.

Ben Price will likely take luck out of the equation here and roll forward from the low draw, not a heap of speed on here so he should get every possible chance and with even luck he should be too good.

RACE 5 2.22PM - SPORTSBET JOCKEY WATCH HANDICAP BETTING ODDS (1550 METRES)
No. 9 Merchant Boss

I was with Merchant Boss last start and he was just fair, I am happy to give him another chance in an even race, he gets in quite well in the race with his main dangers are at the top of the weight scale.

He maps to get a lovely run for Jacob Opperman from Barrier 4, can settle just in behind the speed, has a good record at this track and it suits him better than Murray Bridge did last time out.

Another factor here is his main danger Jenkins has drawn wide, has some weight to contend with and will be giving us a start.

RACE 6 2.57PM – HAN HANDICAP BETTING ODDS
No. 2 Hot Off

It is hard to knock what Hot Off has produced in his last few starts, winning two out of his last three, has had four starts at the distance for two wins and a pair of placings and has won at this track.

He looks to get an uncontested lead here, with his pattern being so evident I dare say nothing will be game enough to try and match him for the front, if he gets left alone, which I think he will, he is going to be might hard to catch here on Saturday.

RACE 7 3.32PM – DOMINANT HANDICAP BETTING ODDS (1250 METRES)
No. 6 Starlite Valley

Its hard to go past Starlite Valley’s win here seven days ago, I don’t mind him on the quick back up from the good draw.

He impressed me with the way he won last start, he finds a race that is of a similar class here, drawn to get the gun run just in behind the speed.

His main dangers have to carry some weight and will be giving him a start, so he looks like a good play each way at around the $10 mark, although he may start much shorter.

RACE 8 4.12PM – SPORTSBET FAST FORM HANDICAP BETTING ODDS (1000 METRES)
No. 11 Shadowfax

Very even race over the 1000m here, looks to be good speed with 2,5,8,9,11 all looking to go forward.

I have landed on Shadowfax, he is racing in good form and the stable is flying at the moment, he just maps to get a lovely run and can get over the top of the speed horses late just sitting in behind them, who I think may be tiring the last 50m in the race, carries a light weight of 55kg after the claim and looks well placed.

RACE 9 4.50PM – THOMAS FARMS HANDICAP BETTING ODDS (1300 METRES)
No. 1 Layeruponlayer

I am sticking with the unbeaten galloper here from the Smerdon yard, the ex HK galloper two wins to date have been super.

They have both rated very well vs what he meets here.

He finds a winnable race to make it 3 on the bounce, he looks to have the most upside, Jake Toeroek goes in the pig skin from a good draw, he looks the best of the favourites for mine at Morphettville.
