No. 3 Leeonardo

J: Ben Allen (59.5kg) T: A & S Freedman

Leeonardo is a Team Freedman-trained three-year-old having his first run back.

The son of Toronado failed to find the money across three starts during his maiden prep, drawing wide over his last two runs where he was well beaten on both occasions.

He’s finally drawn an inside gate and is competing with the blinkers on now for the first time. Gets in well at the weights under the experienced hand of Ben Allen and should be doing his best work late.

No. 3 Easy Road

J: Jake Duffy (57kg) T: Craig Weeding

Easy Road has been up for a while but continues to race well.

The old boy by Super Easy has featured in the money in his last two starts, conceding only narrowly a few weeks ago over the track and distance where he overcame a wide sit and just found one better in the run home.

It’s been close to a year since he won a race and he will need some luck from out wide, but with 3kg off under Jake Duffy, he should be tough to hold out in the late stages.

Ballarat: Race 5 (3:30pm)

Each Way

No. 8 Kikusui

J: Emily Pozman (60kg) T: Tom Dabernig

Kikusui opened her prep with back-to-back wins at Warrnambool and Ballarat before finding excuses against tougher company more recently.

Tom Dabernig’s mare had a wide gate to contend with two runs back and was competing off a four-week break here on the synthetic last start where she was held up down the straight.

Drawn to get the gun run along the rail and likely to appreciate the rise to 1100m, she has genuine each-way claims in an open race.

Ballarat: Race 6 (4:00pm)

No. 10 Corner Off

J: Blaike Mcdougall (57kg) T: Archie Alexander

Corner Off could be suited by the awkward gate if she’s able to get back and find cover early.

The daughter of Toronado stamped herself as a mare worth following when winning at Seymour first-up, before going on to run back-to-back placings at The Valley where she had plenty go against her on both occasions.

Her return effort at Geelong last month on a bottomless track was solid and she’ll eat up 1100m back on the synthetic with 3kg off under Blaike McDougall.
