Bendigo: Race 5 (2:30pm)
Race Starts in: Race Finished
No. 3 Sing For Peace
Sing For Peace rises sharply in distance but does have claims coming back to race at BM78 level.
Patrick Payne’s gelding went around at Sandown over 2400m last week, finishing down the order after being taken back from the wide gate under Brad Rawiller and never really finding top gear.
The decision to race on the quick turnaround warrants big respect though, and from a much kinder gate on this occasion, an improved showing can be expected with conditions to suit.
Bendigo: Race 7 (3:30pm)
Race Starts in: Race Finished
No. 4 Dakarai
Dakarai looks a major player if he gets some luck in running from the wide gate.
Ben Allen saddles this French-bred four-year-old following a brief four-week let up.
His latest effort at Cranbourne saw him just miss out on a place over a similar distance, fighting hard to find the front where he weakened over his final few strides to finish 2.5 length off.
A wet track should be right up his alley and if he can settle handy to the speed, he’ll be hard to hold out based on recent form.
Wyong: Race 7 (3:40pm)
Race Starts in: Race Finished
No. 2 Osman
Osman looks a nice value bet in an open race later on the program.
Mack Griffith’s five-year-old has gone to another level since winning fresh at Mudgee back in March, going on to run a place in back to back starts at Hawkesbury in tougher contests.
The son of American Pharaoh was faced with a Heavy track last start over 1400m, hitting the front over the final furlong before his condition gave way.
A firmer track should be more to his liking and he does have room for improvement considering he was competing off a seven-week break last time out.
Wyong: Race 8 (4:20pm)
Race Starts in: Race Finished
No. 1 Morpheus Bragi
Morpheus Bragi has been around the mark since joining March Chevalier’s stable, finishing no worse than fifth in three starts.
The lightly-raced four-year-old has struck heavy tracks on each occasion, last seen giving good chase at Kensington where he was checked off heels at the top of the straight.
A firmer deck is a big positive and he does tend to improve deeper into his prep.
With a little luck from the gate and Jason Collett steering for the first time, he should be right in this.
