Flying Mean holds a serious class edge over some of his rivals third-up from a spell.

Clinton McDonald’s gelding is still in search of his first win, but he has gone close on a number of occasions at The Valley, and more recently, Cranbourne over shorter.

Presents fitter now and was seen doing his best work late last time out, so by all accounts, he should have no excuses here with the blinkers reapplied.

Spirit Of Nurai strips fitter for two runs back and looks ready to run a huge race with fitness on her side.

The Spirit Of Boom filly was back in the money last start at Pakenham, running on nicely approaching the final furlong to finish a distant second behind all-the-way winner Korobeiniki.

She should find this a touch easier with arms relief at the weights, while the soft conditions under foot are also a plus. Looks likely to get right back in the run and offer something late.

Sophia’s Magic is suited out to the mile third-up.

Carly Thomas’ mare showed real improvement second-up over the 1400m at Sale late last month where she appeared to shift through the gears well in the run home.

This is tougher against a much bigger field, but she has won over 1600m twice and is proven third-up.

With luck from out wide I think she could surprise at nice odds.

Hydro Star has gone up a nice price for a six-year-old that won quite well at Cranbourne three weeks ago.

The son of Headwater has been given a similar break for this assignment and is suited by another soft track.

He’s mixed his form at this level in the past but only needs to produce that same turn of foot to be in the mix. Maps to settle handy to the speed and should be strong late.
