No. 7 Mostly Cloudy

J: Blake Shinn (55kg) T: Trent Busuttin & Natalie Young

Mostly Cloudy is set to start a short-priced favourite in the Brisbane Cup this afternoon.

The Irish raider by Group 1 winner Harzand has been around the mark in his two most recent attempts, finishing midfield from a very awkward draw two back in the Sydney Cup, before placing runner-up to The Map after being held up badly in the Andrew Ramsden at Flemington.

Down at the weights and drawn an ideal gate, a similar effort would see him hard to beat.

No. 3 Razors

J: James Mcdonald (57kg) T: James Cummings

Razors has been given a good gap between runs coming off a disappointing effort at Doomben last month.

The son of Sidestep had his run of placings snapped after being held up badly down the straight, but is worth forgiving after running a place in the Queensland Guineas the start prior.

His recent trial at Hawkesbury was strong and he commands big respect with James McDonald engaged this time from a perfect gate.

No. 1 Broadsiding

J: James Mcdonald (57kg) T: James Cummings

Broadsiding has his sights set on a second Group 1 in the J.J. Atkins over the mile.

The Godolphin colt was all class winning the Champagne Stakes at Randwick during the autumn, and has since resumed to claim his hat-trick with a stunning turn of foot to take out the Sires’ Produce by close to a length.

Fitter now and still unbeaten over 1600m, he should take a power of beating from the low gate under James McDonald.

No. 17 Stefi Magnetica

J: Zac Lloyd (50kg) T: Bjorn Baker

Stefi Magnetica appears well-placed third-up in the Stradbroke.

Bjorn Baker’s filly returned in good order off a break in the Doomben 10,000 last month, showcasing late speed to clock one of the fastest final 200m splits of the race.

She was in the wrong part of the track back to Group 3 level in the Fred Best Classic last time out but still held ground to finish third. With luck from the gate, she should be a big threat in the finish with 5kg off under Zac Lloyd.
