Eagle Farm: Race 2 (12:18pm)

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Win

No. 1 Depth Of Character

J: Tom Sherry (57kg) T: Annabel Neasham

Depth Of Character looks poised to strike third-up in the Tatt’s Stakes.

The Deep Field colt caught the eye when winning on debut at Canterbury late last month, showcasing a powerful turn of foot to score by close to a length.

He lost no admirers in the Oxlade Stakes a fortnight ago, making up ground after a slow start to finish a clear third. Back on a soft track with the class of James McDonald engaged, he looks capable of taking the next step.

Eagle Farm: Race 6 (2:47pm)

Win

No. 5 Spirit Ridge

Spirit Ridge can make amends for a disappointing showing two weeks ago in The Q22.

Annabel Neasham’s nine-year-old weakened badly at the top of the straight off a wide run in transit, beaten over six lengths by Fawkner Park.

Racing at weight-for-age clearly didn’t suit, but he should find the return to Handicap conditions in the Tattersall’s Cup more to his liking after claiming a Group 3 at Doomben the start prior. Down 2.5kg under Ryan Maloney and drawn a kinder gate, the old boy looks a nice value play in an open race.

Eagle Farm: Race 7 (3:23pm)

Win

No. 4 Charterhouse

Charterhouse is the one I want to be on with real scope for improvement coming off a run in the Wayne Wilson two weeks earlier.

Ciaron Maher’s six-year-old was a month between runs when beaten 2.4 lengths by Freedom Rally, stoking up nicely along the outside where he just lacked the dash over the final 100m once the speed quickened. That was just his second start back from a spell, so he does appear well-placed sticking to the mile from a much better gate on this occasion.

Three of his five wins have come on soft going and if he can settle handy to the speed this time, he’ll be strong in the finish.

Eagle Farm: Race 8 (3:58pm)

Win

No. 1 Bella Nipotina

The gate and the booking of Ryan Maloney are the two big queries around Bella Nipotina, but on class alone she probably wins this year’s Tattersall’s Tiara.

Her last two efforts at this level have been almost faultless, hitting the line hard two weeks ago in the Stradbroke down the outside where she just came off second-best conceding weight to Stefi Magnetica.

Ciaron Maher’s multiple Group 1 winner should look to get back early in the run and I don’t think a soft track really hurts her chances.

Hands down the best horse in the race and also boasting a win over I Wish I Win in the Doomben 10,000, this looks a nice consolation for her to end the Carnival on a winning note.
