Black-Type racing in Sydney for the winter continues at Warwick Farm this Wednesday, June 26th, with the rescheduled 2024 Civic Stakes added to the card after Saturday’s Randwick wash-out.
Racing fans are treated to an eight-race program including the Listed $200,000 Civic Stakes (1400m) featuring last summer’s The Buffering winner Tamerlane for Godolphin.
The track is currently rated a Heavy (9) but with rain easing we might even be looking at a midweek upgrade!
We’ve done the form for all Warwick Farm races at the meeting and have our complete Civic Stakes Day 2024 betting tips and preview below.
Bit of Each Way value in the first with the Kerry Parker-trained Back In A Tik looking overs at 20/1 at time of publish as a last start winner with wet track form.
Jay Ford partners from a midfield draw in this short distance sprint on 56kg, which looks ideal for this in-form Frosted filly who comes off a Heavy (9) maiden win at Nowra from mid-June.
That was after she moved from Ben Smith’s yard to Parker, and she is looking to make it two-from-two for her new stable.
Was a big 2.3 length winner with less weight over the 1200m so will need to be good dropping back in distance when she looks like she’ll get further.
Still, at the price in a field full of unknowns on Heavy going she’s a genuine Each Way play.
Happy to stick with the short-priced favourite in the second with the Godolphin-raced Tarpaulin rails-drawn and looking to break his maiden fresh.
The James Cummings / James McDonald combo is hard to ignore, especially in these two-year-old races where trainer and jockey experience goes a long way.
The Harry Angel colt was far from disgraced on debut when fourth at Randwick on a Soft (5) over 1100m behind Straight Charge from the inside alley back in December last year.
That form was franked with Straight Charge winning the Group 2 Silver Slipper, finishing second in the Group 2 Todman and running a credible sixth in the iconic Golden Slipper.
After back-to-back seconds in two Warwick Farm trials to bring him on, it now looks Tarpaulin’s chance to do something good this prep.
Can win.
Detendu in a midfield gate five draw for the third looks a class sprinter more than capable of a win here after a string of frustrating minors.
Tim Clark rides the Epaulette gelding on 59kg in a drop back from the 61kg the horse carted fresh when third at the Kensington track with K. McEvoy aboard.
Weight relief helps as does the fitness edge after that fresh run on a Heavy (8) only 1.18 lengths behind Braveheart.
His three other runs in the summer all produced second place efforts including one here behind Ducasse over 1200m in February.
Crying out for a win now, gets conditions to suit and can shrug the place-getter status.
Confident an upset is pending in the fourth and sticking with Lulumon for a win at any old price.
This in-form Jason Coyle-trained Vancouver filly is beautifully bred and performing well so far.
She is at over $20 at time of publish, which looks a big price looking at her nice career strike-rate to date (9-2:4:2).
The bonny bay has the confidence of a last start win at Hawkesbury from late May over this 1300m distance, albeit on a Good (4).
Still, she carted 58.5kg to victory there and so she is proven at this weight.
Wider out, but that might be a decent place with a likely rain-affected track.
Heavy form is also good (3:0-2-1) so she is versatile and can surprise a few at blowout odds.
Milers on show in the fifth and have landed on the Marc Conners-trained Danish Prince for the win.
Tim Clark rides the son of Dane Shadow here with the horse looking for his first Warwick Farm win at his third start after two previous seconds at the course.
Good form of late when narrowly denied at the track and trip on June 5 going down a nostril flare to Time Quest in a BM72 on a Soft (7).
Rosehill last time out over 1500m up to BM78 grade on a Heavy (9) and lost few admirers only a half-length off the classy winner Franz Josef.
That form looks good enough to stack-up here.
Decent field of good horses gathered in Race 6 with a couple of last start winners in the mix including Team Snowden’s Need Some Luck.
Sticking with a more tested runner despite the little setback having been booked for a different assignment before the washout last weekend.
He’s drawn wide here (13) for Tommy Berry, but there’s money starting to come now and can see why.
The progressive Rubick colt is third-up and fit having won last time out at Canterbury in similar grade with 57.5kg over 1250m.
No issues at this distance and loves Warwick Farm (3:1-2-0) so a start here suits.
Up a little in weight but putting together a nice record.
Handles Soft going and can win again.
The day’s feature race has a competitive field gathered and am keen to take the Joe Pride-trained Estadio Mestalla for the win the 2024 Civic Stakes.
Tyler Schiller is riding well and partners this consistent, Irish-bred Galileo Gold gelding third-up.
The five-year-old hasn’t seen Warwick Farm yet, but does come off eye-catching back-to-back fourth place finishes this prep.
Back in May at Newcastle he was only 1.5 lengths off Semillion in the Listed Takeover Target Stakes (1200m) run on a very wet track, then finished fourth only 1.38 lengths off Excelladus at Randwick on a Heavy (9) a fortnight ago over 1300m.
The 1400m now looks ideal, he’ll relish the going, right down to just 53kg, has won third-up in the past and so ticks plenty of boxes at a nice price to earn some Black-Type.
Attractive odds in the last for this Gary Nickson-trained local with Super One four-year-old, One Destiny, ticking plenty of boxes.
Already having his 42nd start so well-tried for his age and going great guns now.
Winner here on a Heavy (8) two back off an on-speed run before finishing second at Rosehill on June 15 in a BM72 over 1100m on a Heavy (9) without ever giving up.
In okay in the weights, the last the wide alley could be advantageous and should handle the going well.
Ready for atone for the narrow last start defeat and return to winning form.
