2024 The Goodwood Day Tips & Preview

The Adelaide Racing Carnival winds down this Saturday, but not before the running of the time-honoured Group 1 The Goodwood over 1200m.

Amelia’s Jewel has gone up favourite in a wide-open race between the sprinters, but there is a case to be made for last-start place-getters Benedetta and Oscar’s Fortune.

A huge day of racing awaits at Morphettville, and our best bets across the entire program can be found here!

RACE 1 12.17PM – CARBINE CLUB OF SOUTH AUSTRALIA HANDICAP (1050 METRES)
No. 2 Vintage Star

With Mansiere coming out of the event it opens right up.

I liked the way this bloke won his maiden in good style first up last time in, he has trialled well leading into this preparation and looks to have improved to my eye.

In an even race, I thought he looked a great chance for the inform Richard and Chantelle Jolly stable, Jake Toeroek takes the ride and they are a force to be reckoned with in SA.

RACE 2 12.52PM – SKYCITY HANDICAP (1800 METRES)
No. 2 Bond Street Beau

This gelding by Turn Me Loose bounced back into the winners stall last start with a strong win at this track, he is a horse that when he finds form he generally holds it.

I like that leading South Australian Jockey sticks with him, it’s a very even race I’m happy to play this guy each way from the good draw off a freshen up.

RACE 3 1.27PM – SPORTSBET DAVID COLES AM STAKES (1200 METRES)
No. 3 Karavas

I am giving this filly one more chance. I thought she was very good first up this preparation at Morphettville, she was no match for the very smart Growing Empire second up.

I’m putting it down to a bit of second up Syndrome, she rode the speed on that day which I believe isn’t her best attribute, she is best ridden with cover and coming late with a good run, this race sets up with good tempo and she should get her chance to hit the line late

It’s a D day for her but I think she can bounce back.

RACE 4 2.02PM – KEN AND HELEN SMITH SA FILLIES CLASSIC (2500 METRES)
No. 1 Positivity

Group 1 placed filly from NZ that was very good in the Australasian Oaks last start behind Vibrant Sun only beaten 3.5L, she brings the strongest form lines in here and looks to my eye that she will run the trip out strongly.

Not a heap of tempo in this race she can settle closer to the speed form barrier (3) and give a strong account of herself in this year’s SA Fillies Classic. I have marked her favourite.

RACE 5 2.37PM – THOMAS FARMS CENTAUREA STAKES (2019 METRES)
No. 1 Seonee

She really impressed me winning last start, she has always shown the capacity to be a lovely middle distance mare, the stable have placed her very well this time in.

Yes she has the top weight and has to give some nice horses an allowance but she is absolutely flying this time in and with the soft draw she maps to get every opportunity to get another win on the board.

RACE 6 3.12PM – SPORTSBET PROUD MISS STAKES (1200M)
No. 3 Laced Up Heels

Cracking race this, a lot of different form lines to put together majority of the field are coming off some great runs, but I have sided with the WA mare Laced Up Heels, she has been very good in WA this preparation.

Last start she looked the winner just being run down late by a smart one in Sapphire Street who had a nice weight pull on her that day.

Change of scenery might do her a world of good and spark her up for the Proud Miss Stakes, she looks very well placed and I’m happy to take the fresh form she brings in here, she will be charging at them late.

RACE 7 3.52pm – HAHN THE CUMMINGS STAKES (1600 METRES)
No. 2 Pounding

He is the class runner of this field and gets in quite well at the weights, I don’t mind him third up at the mile, it looks quite an even race on paper.

With some of the main speed in the race drawn out wide I would say they will go along at a good tempo, this will ensure Pounding gets his chance from the wide draw to run on, Blake Shinn will take him back to midfield or worse on settling and will be launching his attack late in The Cummings Stakes.

RACE 8 4.30PM – THE SPORTSBET GOODWOOD (1200 METRES)
No. 6 I Am Me

One of the strongest Goodwood’s we have seen for a few years in my opinion, it sets up to be a cracking race.

I have settled on the Mare from the Ciaron Maher stable I Am Me, looks to my eye to be a lack of tempo in this race, a lot of these spinters like to sit up and sprint late, this should give Blake Shinn the ability to lead this field up from barrier 1, if she gets her own way in front she will be mighty hard to run down, the main danger with the Blinkers going on first time is the WA mare Amelias Jewel.

RACE 9 5.05PM – GRAND SYNDICATES HANDICAP (1200M)
No. 14 Sachem

He was very good first up behind the smart filly Aviatress, he flashed home late down the outside to just miss.

Good indication he has come back an improved horse was the mountain of money for him in betting first up

Looks to be good tempo in this race and he looks to get his chance to charge home over the top of them late.
