Daily Racing Tips – Wednesday, March 20

Mount Olympus is back competing at the mid-weeks after scoring a well-deserved win fresh at Ballarat last month.  

The McEvoy-trained three-year-old found the line nicely after leading out of the barriers, giving an extra kick to hold off a couple of smart horses in the process and win by over a length.  

He’s been kept fresh for the run with a trial between starts, and I do think the step back to 1000m looks ideal. Harry Coffey has experience in the saddle, and from gate 6, they should have no problem finding the front.  

Farag has trialled up nicely ahead of his first run back since August. 

Ciaron Maher’s seven-year-old has a win to his name over the track and distance, also proving himself over further winning a jumps race over 4200m.  

He’s typically done some of his best racing fresh and just needs a touch of luck to go his way from the wide barrier.  

Ersa should find this a touch easier coming off a run in the Thousand Guineas last start at Caulfield.  

The daughter of Lonhro looked out of her depth that day, but she did hold her own in a Group 3 the start prior over the mile.  

This is her first run since the spring, but she has jumped out well and gets the winkers off now for the first time. Drawn a soft gate and in well with the claim, she should run well at a decent price.  

Modown really caught the eye when just missing out in a diving finish at Pakenham in his first run back a few weeks ago.  

The three-year-old son of Toronado has made only five starts so far, notably finishing runner-up in the Springtime Stakes at Flemington back in November over the same trip.  

His maiden win came at this stage of his prep last time in work, and although he’ll carry a little extra weight, this does look a much easier contest with Craig Williams sticking.
