The Valley: Race 2 (11:35am AEDT)

Win

No. 1 Spywire

Spywire should prove a class above in this small field.

The colt by Trapeze Artist worked hard to find the front from out wide in the Blue Diamond, weakening badly up on the speed where he finished 3.4 lengths off.

We saw him run third to one of the Slipper favourites the start prior on Magic Millions Day, while his recent jump out suggested a bounce back could be imminent.

Back in grade and drawn well, he’s more than worthy of the short price.

Rosehill: Race 5 (1:35pm AEDT)

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Win

No. 3 Buckaroo

J: Ryan Moore (59kg) T: Chris Waller

Buckaroo looks a live chance to add a Group 1 to his resume in the Ranvet Stakes.

Chris Waller’s talented import has been given a good break for his midfield effort in the Apollo Stakes first-up, bypassing suitable races like the Verry Elleegant Stakes over the last month.

With that in mind, this looks a clear target race from the stable, while there was a bit to like about his effort in the Apollo where he was only seen doing his best work late.

Off a handy trial between starts, he looks set to run a huge race with soft conditions under foot.

Rosehill: Race 6 (3:15pm AEDT)

Win

No. 4 Tom Kitten

Tom Kitten has gone up in Rosehill Guineas betting about the price I’d expect for a colt that won the Spring Champion Stakes over this trip at Randwick last October.

His three runs this time in work might look a little plain to the eye, but he did cop some interference two back in the Hobartville, while I thought the ride was against him in Randwick Guineas three weeks ago where he was held up badly at the top of the straight.

Hugh Bowman jumping into the saddle is a big plus in my book, not to mention the low gate.

Fitter, out to his preferred trip and proven in the wet, he should be very hard to hold out if he’s allowed to work through his gears.

Rosehill: Race 7 (3:55pm AEDT)

Win

No. 17 Veight

Veight could be the value runner in this year’s George Ryder Stakes field if Militarize chooses to head to the Guineas.

I’ve been with him on a couple of occasions this prep where he’s been super honest running fourth to Mr Brightside in the C.F. Orr Stakes two back, and runner-up over the mile in the Australian Guineas to start the month.

I’m not sure 1600m was suitable last time out, so this step back to 1500m does appeal. We’ve seen the turn of foot he possesses in the Australia Stakes first-up, and if he’s close enough with some relief at the weights, he could finally earn the stable a well-deserved Group 1.
