No. 4 Jack Of Aces

J: Jeff Penza (56kg) T: Matthew Smith

Jack Of Aces gets his first look at the Canberra track coming off a complete forgive effort at Goulburn three weeks ago.

Matthew Smith’s gelding weakened badly to finish last in the field of 11, a victim of the wide gate and over-racing in a key stage.

He’s drawn a soft barrier on this occasion though, and does look likely to roll forward and test his luck on speed. Keegan Latham has a feel for him and the pair rate highly in this small field.

Canberra: Race 4 (1:50pm AEDT)

Each Way

No. 2 Napoloen Solo

J: Louise Day (58kg) T: Natalie Jarvis

Napoleon Solo rates a decent each-way play in an open race.

The old boy hasn’t won in quite some time, but he did run well over further two back at Moruya before being sent briefly back to the paddock.

He resumed off an eight-week break at Kembla Grange earlier in the month where he was never clear, only finding the line fairly beaten over four lengths.

Still, he is open to improvement back on a dry track and is likely to find the drop back in trip right up his alley.

Canberra: Race 6 (3:00pm AEDT)

No. 4 Adagio

J: Amy Mclucas (57.5kg) T: G Waterhouse & A Bott

Adagio should run fitter with two runs under his belt now over 2000m.

The son of Pierro has made just four starts to date, winning his maiden on a bottomless track at Muswellbrook three runs back by a handy margin.

How he handles another dry track is the query, but if he gets some cheap splits and finds the front early, he’ll be hard to catch.

Canberra: Race 8 (4:10pm AEDT)

No. 3 Occhiata

J: Louise Day (58.5kg) T: Matthew Dale

Occhiata is armed with a decent turn of foot that was on full display when winning back-to-back starts earlier in the year.

She was in the money again just under a month ago at Moruya, gunned down late up on the speed where she was forced to settle for second in the end.

The fact she sticks over 1400m looks ideal with fitness on her side now, while she should receive a more patient ride off the speed this time with a few likely to roll forward.
