2024 NRL Round 4 SGM Preview

2024 NRL Round 4 SGM Preview

The Easter long weekend is quickly approaching and we’ve scored ourselves five days of footy over the long weekend!

We have a couple of Queensland derbies as well as a Chookies v Penrith game that should not disappoint.

Last week we started off really well with a good pick up on the Thursday night game but there wasn’t much going for us the rest of the weekend.

Strong start but a quick departure, sums up my park cricket.

I’ve got a few eggs stashed in this article for you punters and by eggs stashed, I mean same game multis clearly laid out in order of when the games will be played.

Here’s what I’ve cheffed up for Round 4.

Also, listen to our poddy ya dogs.

SYDNEY ROOSTERS V PENRITH PANTHERS
Check it out below

The Roosters have been humming so far this season. Last year they were our unanimous pick on the podcast to win the comp and I think the four of us expected them to play in 2023 how they have been so far this season.

The Chookies are short favourites against a Cleary-less Penrith side but I’m worried that this could be a very big overreaction.

The Panthers have played a boat load of games with out Cleary and their form certainly does not disappear when he’s not there.

I think this one will be a genuine arm wrestle and I cannot split these two sides. That’s why I’ll be taking either team by less than 12.5 as my first leg at $1.65.

We probably need a try scorer from both teams then and it’s hard to go past Sunia Turuva from the Riff for me.

Three tries in three rounds and is juicy value at $2.95 in this one, he saluted for us last week, lets ride him again.

Dom Young is the other obvious choice and he has scored in every game he’s played as a Rooster, the big unit is $1.90 in the markets and will certainly have a couple of chances of scoring. He joins the multi as my last leg.

Chooks v Panthers: $8.26

  • Either team by less than 12.5 @ $1.65
  • Sunia Turuva Anytime Try Scorer @ $2.40
  • Dom Young Anytime Try Scorer @ $1.90
BRISBANE BRONCOS V NORTH QUEENSLAND COWBOYS

There’s El Classico, the Manchester Derby and there’s the F3 Derby where two Central Coast A-League teams battle it out for a piece of the highway.

But in my eyes, the biggest rivalry in sport (well actually second biggest after Origin) is Broncos v Cowboys.

Massive QLD derby this Good Friday and while I was contained enough to not make a “Great Friday” joke, I do not have enough self control to be impartial in this breakdown.

The Cowboys are a pile of shit to me this week.

It’s even money for these two sides at the time of writing, Reyno is back for the Broncs but they’re still without Haas, Walsh and now Piakura.

I’ll be adding Broncs to win to this multi as well as both Tristan Sailor and Kotoni Staggs as my try scorers.

Sailor will be looking to make the most of his opportunities at fullback and I think if he’s close to the line, he’ll be looking to go over himself to keep a spot in the team.

Staggs has been a bit quiet in attack so far this year, there’s no analytics behind that pick. I just think he’s due.

Broncs v Cows SGM $14.34

  • Broncos H2H @ $1.90
  • Tristan Sailor Anytime Try Scorer @ $3.35
  • Kotoni Staggs Anytime Try Scorer @ $3.50
GOLD COAST TITANS V DOLPHINS

Phins 13+ could quite possibly be my favourite bet of the round this weekend.

The Titans have been almost the worst they’ve ever been so far to start this season and that is saying something.

Meanwhile the Dolphins are coming off the bye but the week before that they had a 30 point shut out over St George.

The Titans are without Big Tino this week and for the rest of 2024, I just don’t have a lot of faith in this outift this week especially with Tanah Boyd still in a run on spot.

Phins 13+ for me looks great at $3.30, throw in the Hammer ATS at $2.35 and that is a very respectable two leg multi.

GC v PHINS SGM $5.78

  • Dolphins 13+ @ $3.30
  • Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow Anytime Try Scorer @ $2.35
CRONULLA SHARKS V CANBERRA RAIDERS

I do not believe that the Sharkies deserve to be favourites in this matchup.

They just got pumped by the Tigers of all teams and are now hosting a Canberra side who have certainly played above expectation so far this season.

Give me that Milk H2H at $2.40 any day of the week.

This is another game I’m thinking a conservative play might be the way to go, Xavier Savage will be my tryscorer leg.

Savage has jumped off the screen so far for me this year, he has two tries in three games and I’m with him here against the Sharks.

Sharkies v Milk SGM $4.60

  • Raiders H2H @ $2.40
  • Xavier Savage Anytime Tryscorer @ $2.65
