The UFC is saying ‘hola’ from the CDMX Arena in Mexico and they are taking some of the top fighters from Mexico with them.
Brandon Moreno recently lost his Flyweight title to Alexandre Pantoja however, he’s back in the octagon against the number three-ranked Flyweight, Brandon Royval.
Taking the Co-Main Event is a Pay-per-View standard of Yair Rodriguez going toe to toe with Brian Ortega, and you can assume that the winner of this bout will next in line behind former champ Alexander Volkanovski.
Any hardcore fans will understand how stacked the card truly is and my thoughts are down below.
The Battle of the Brandon’s is back with Brandon Moreno set to go toe-to-toe with Brandon Royval.
The last time the pair met, it was a first round KO for Moreno in what was a dominant performance from the experienced Mexican.
So what went wrong for Royval?
Brandon Royval failed to compete on the ground and being in a venerable position like he was on so many occasions, the referee stopping that fight was inevitable, given that he wasn’t able to protect himself.
However, since that first round obliteration, Royval has become a better fighter, including going the distance against the recently crowned champion, Alexandre Pantoja.
Will the outcome change this Sunday?
I think the experience that Royval has gained since his defeat to Moreno in 2020 will give him the motivation and the grit to win this bout and hopefully take on Pantoja for the third time.
Yair Rodriguez and Brian Ortega will face each other once again and this time both fighters are coming off losses.
For Rodriguez, he was outclassed and outplayed by an in-form Alexander Volkanovski and for Ortega, funnily enough, it was a first-round knockout from Yair Rodriguez himself.
Ortega has not been seen in the octagon since July of 2022 and he’s ready to return with a bang.
Only one can assume that the winner will be next in line for Ilia Topuria’s Featherweight title after Volk rightfully receives his rematch.
I think Rodriguez will be too strong, too tough and too classy for the returning Brian Ortega come Sunday.
Raul Rosas Jr. is making a comeback to the Octagon a freestyle wrestler named Ricky Turcios.
Rosas Jr. first arrived onto the scene by partaking in the Dana White contender series and being the youngest active fighter in the UFC, he’s naturally made a name for himself defeating individuals who are upwards of twice his age.
At the time of writing, the bookies suggest a dominating performance from the Mexican Teenager, and I can’t help but agree.
His wrestling skills are at the level of UFC Hall of Famer, Khabib Nurmagomedov, in my opinion, and he’s ready to outclass his opponent again.
