Daily Racing Tips – Thursday, February 8

Tough to find fault with the recent efforts of the Chris Waller-trained Counter. 

The son of Lope De Vega has been up for a while, holding his form nicely to find the money in his last four starts.  

He’s recently finished runner-up to a couple of smart geldings at Canterbury and Newcastle, form that has held up nicely with both going on win their next start. 

If he gets some luck from the wide gate under Chad Schofield, he shouldn’t be a maiden for much longer.  

Shako has done a bit wrong in both runs back but does appear set for a nice ride off the speed from the inside gate.  

The Godolphin three-year-old was always wide first-up at Newcastle, sticking to the task only fairly a couple of weeks later here at Wyong for third behind smart gelding, South Of India.  

Zac Lloyd getting back in the saddle can be seen as a plus and with plenty early speed on paper, they should be able to get back and save something for the finish.  

Sumo Star was scratched from last Saturday’s meeting at Rosehill in favour of this more winnable assignment. 

The son of Maurice was racing well last year before striking wet tracks at Randwick and Kensington in his last two attempts, weakening badly up on the speed on both occasions.  

On paper, he should have an easy time finding the front on this occasion with Dylan Gibbons engaged for the first time.  

Triskelion handled the step up to BM64 level rather well a couple of weeks ago, beaten just over a length over this same trip at Gosford in just his second start. 

His win on debut the start prior was super encouraging, hugging the rail and bursting clear along the inside to win with plenty left in the tank.  

The gate makes this slightly tricky, but he does look ready to win again if Josh Parr can push forward.
