2023/24 A-League Round 9 Tips & Preview

2023/24 A-League Round 9 Tips & Preview

The A-League keeps on trucking over the Christmas period with four games on the Saturday before Chrissie!

We’ve had an incredibly exciting start to the season and we must be all on the nice list this year because there are some great games slated for the Xmas break

I’ve run my eyes over the markets, checked the trends and played a bit of FIFA EAFC 24.

Here is my preview of Round 9 of the 2023/24 A-League Season

BRISBANE ROAR V CENTRAL COAST MARINERS
Brisbane Roar @ $2.30

The Roar will host 9th placed CCM on Thursday night this week and despite the loss to Western United this week, they’re still having a hell of a season.

Brisbane are 4-2-2 on the year and are $2.30 to pick up their fifth win of the campaign here.

The last five times these sides have met, the Mariners have won four of them but the Roar were the ones that came away with the three points in Week 4.

Brisbane has lost five of its last six A-League night matches as a favourite but I think that betting trend stops here.

Brisbane to win.

ADELAIDE UNITED V NEWCASTLE JETS
WSW H2H @ $1.88

There’s only one game of football on Friday night and it should be a pretty good one.

United will host the Jets and despite them sitting in 7th place, I think they’re a great chance to come away with three points here.

Newcastle have had the second leakiest defence all year allowing 16 goals in 8 games and now they’re up against the Reds who despite being 7th, have scored the second most goals on the year with 17.

United are $1.80 favourites against the Jets and even though the underdog has won each of Adelaide’s last five A-League matches at Coopers Stadium and the Jets are a juicy $4. I’m sticking with United.

WELLINGTON PHOENIX V WESTERN SYDNEY WANDERERS FC
Phoenix H2H @ $2.60

The A-League are taking full advantage of the multiple timezones they spread across.

We’re starting a big Saturday with the Phoenix hosting the Wanderers in NZ.

The top of the table Phoenix are underdogs against the Wanderers and readers of the blog will know how much success we’ve had on the ‘Nix this year.

The market is close, Wellington are $2.60 to WSW’s $2.50 but given that the underdog has won each of Wellington’s last four A-League matches and the Phoenix have been our most successful team this year.

I’m rocking with them once again.

Up the ‘Nix

SYDNEY FC V WESTERN UNITED
Sydney FC H2H @ $1.70

Game two of four on Saturday has the Sky Blues hosting the second last Western United.

Despite only sitting one spot higher on the ladder, Sydney are a very short $1.70 for victory on Saturday evening, United on the other hand are massive outsiders at $4.50.

Western United still have the worst attack in the league, they have five goals to their name this year and have let in the most at the back with 17 in 8 weeks of football.

Sydney have been just as poor at the back with 16 goals allowed, but I like them to put a few past United here.

Sydney FC have lost four of their last five A-League matches as favourites but Western United have been the worst team so far this year in my eyes.

MELBOURNE CITY V MELBOURNE VICTORY
Draw @ $3.50

There is buckets of anticipation being thrown around for this game.

It’s always been a very famous rivalry and we are treated to another Melbourne derby in the third game of Saturday’s quadruple header.

Last time I checked there should only be 23 people on a football pitch at any time (22 players and a referee) and I hope someone has relayed that to Melbourne Victory’s fans.

6th placed Melbourne City are the favourites here, they’re $2.30 to the Vic’s $2.90 but the Victory are still the only unbeaten team this year.

Does that mean I think they will win?

No I do not, three of Melbourne Victory’s last four A-League night matches have resulted in a draw and given how they are playing so far this year.

I think a draw in the derby could be on the cards.

PERTH GLORY v MACARTHUR FC
Macarthur H2H @ $2.70

Wrapping up the round and utilising all four timezones, we finish in Perth for a late game.

The Glory will host Macarthur and I’m not sure how we’re still getting value for the Bulls.

Perth have one win on the season and Macarthur just have the one loss to their name.

Despite being on opposite sides of the table. The Bulls are $2.70 underdogs.

Great value for Macarthur considering that the 12th placed Glory have lost four of their last five.
