Last minute goals have been quite the theme this year in the A-League.
This is a safe space for everyone that backed Adelaide United to win on Monday night and put the champagne on ice in with a few minutes to go.
We will get through this and it starts by moving head first into Week 7.
We’ve got six great games of domestic mens Australian football and you already know I’ve got you covered for tips!
I’ve run my eyes over the markets, checked the trends and played a bit of FIFA EAFC 24.
Here is my preview of Round 7 of the 2023/24 A-League Season
We’re getting the two worst teams out of the way early this round. 11th plays 12th on Friday night.
What a fall off both these sides have had, both teams defeated City to win the last two premierships and now they’re circling the bottom of the drain.
CCM have opened as $1.94 favourites to United’s $3.50 and I can see why, in their last five meetings, the Mariners have four wins and one draw over United.
Western United have just the one goal to their name in their last five games and I really struggle to see how they will put up a fight with even the 11th placed Mariners.
City returned to their winning ways last week with a 2-0 win over the Jets, can they continue to build momentum over in Perth?
We’ve got two games this Friday night and the second of them will be at HBF Park where the Glory are $3.70 underdogs.
After starting the year 1-1-1, things were starting to look much improved for Perth but since then, they’ve gone and lost three games in a row.
Granted, two of those games were against the Wanderers and Roar, who are sitting a lot higher up on the table but this week they play City who are supposed to be a lot better than they’ve shown so far this season.
The home team has won each of Perth’s last five A-League matches and it will be close to midnight body time when this game kicks off for the Melburnians, do we have a crack on the jetlag?
The Glory/Draw double chance would be where I’m looking but at $1.70, that’s probably more of a multi leg than an out and out bet.
We’re not here to put shoes on caterpillars, up the Glory!
Top of the table Wellington Phoenix will take on the Newcastle Jets for the first game of our Saturday double header.
The Nix are still unbeaten this year with wins over the Glory, Roar, City and Western United to their name.
If you have followed my weekly tips so far this A-league season, you’d know how good for our wallet Wellington have been.
Allow me to quote myself from last weeks blog “Wellington at $3.15 is insane value if you ask me, jump on the Phoenix before the bookies clue on.”
It appears the bookies have now clued on, Wellington are $1.88 against the Jets $3.70 this week.
Wellington could in fact be the real deal this year, they’ve also won each of their last nine night matches at Sky Stadium following a win.
I see them winning this one comfortably.
Despite being undefeated, Macarthur have opened as massive $4.25 underdogs against the Sky Blues.
The Bulls currently sit third with three wins and three draws after a crazy comeback to win over Adelaide United last week.
Sydney on the other hand sit 8th on a record of 2-4, how did they go last week? They won 3-2 against Perth thanks to an own goal.
I think the bookies are disrespecting Macarthur here, Sydney have lost three of its last four A-League matches as a favourite and as I mentioned earlier, Macarthur are unbeaten this year.
Macarthur/Draw double chance is $1.91, that’s the play for me.
Quite possibly the game of the round, the Roar will take on the Reds in what should be a very exciting matchup.
Both these sides ran their race far too early last week, the Roar put their cue in the rack early last week after scoring two early goals and ended up sharing the points.
Adelaide also put the kettle on early on Monday night against Macarthur, conceding two goals in the last 10 minutes to go down to Macarthur.
Both these sides will be pretty keen to make amends for those embarrassing finishes, Adelaide have opened at $2.15 and the Roar $3.00.
Head to head recently, the Roar have no bragging rights at all, the Reds have three wins and two draws in this matchup but this Roar outfit should push them here.
The underdog has won each of Adelaide’s last four A-League matches at Coopers Stadium but I still believe Adelaide should get it done here, they’ve scored the most goals in the league and the Roar’s defence has been leaky.
We round out Round 7 with the Wanderers hosting Melbourne Victory.
Both these sides are undefeated through six weeks but the Vics only have two wins and four draws.
Western Sydney has won each of its last eight A-League home matches following a draw and have the best defence in the league. Through six weeks they’ve only conceded four goals.
WSW to win for me.
