2023 Melbourne Cup Tips: Specials Markets

There is plenty of value to be found in the 2023 Melbourne Cup betting markets here at Neds, and there are a range of specials markets available for the great race!

Melbourne Cup Day offers plenty of opportunities to find a winner, and with these Melbourne Cup specials, we are absolutely spoiled for choice.

I’ve had a look at each specials markets, and you can find my 2023 Melbourne Cup Tips for these below.

2023 Melbourne Cup Winning Barrier
1-12 ($1.40)

You can bet on which band of barriers you think that the 2023 Melbourne Cup winner will leave from.

At publish, Barriers 1-12 is available at odds of $1.40, while Barriers 13-24 can be taken at $3.10.

Given that Vauban will leave from Barrier 3, alongside other popular gallopers like Soulcombe (Barrier 4), Gold Trip (Barrier 2) and Absurde (Barrier 8), I am happy to back the favourite option in this market.

2023 Melbourne Cup 'Without Favourite'
No. 21 Future History ($19)

Vauban has maintained favouritism in 2023 Melbourne Cup betting for well over a month now, but there has been good interest for plenty of gallopers to win, including reigning champion Gold Trip, international raiders Absurde and Breakup, and the Caulfield Cup winner, Without A Fight.

I think that Vauban will indeed win the race, but one horse that I thought represented great value in the Melbourne Cup ‘Favourite Out’ market is Future History.

Future History has been relatively low flying heading into the Melbourne Cup 2024, having booked his place in this field by winning The Bart Cummings, while he completed his tune-up by finishing third in the Moonee Valley Gold Cup last time out.

Hollie Doyle rides, the horse has been charged with carrying just 50kgs, and I think he’ll be right in the finish.

2023 Melbourne Cup Top 5 & Top 10
Ashrun

You can back any horse of your choosing to finish in both the Top 5 and the Top 10 in the 2023 Melbourne Cup, and I thought that Ashrun was a galloper that represented value in both markets.

Ashrun spent nearly three years away from the races after an excellent spring preparation in 2023, and he has improved with each of three runs back this time, culminating in an eye-catching second in the Geelong Cup last time out.

Geelong Cup form has held up several times in the Melbourne Cup, and last year’s winner Emissary progressed to an eye-catching second behind Gold Trip on the first Tuesday in November.

I’ll be back Ashrun to finish in the Top 5 at odds of $6 (at publish), and also having saver on the horse to finish in the Top 10 at odds of $2.35 (at publish).

2023 Melbourne Cup ‘Who Runs the World, Girls!’
$6 (at publish)

The Neds traders have also framed a Melbourne Cup betting market, offering $6 (at publish) for a female horse, trainer or jockey to win the 2023 Melbourne Cup.

That means that if any of Lastotchka, Magical Lagoon, Miliary Mission, Serpentine, More Felons or Future History wins, this market will also salute!
