2023 Melbourne Cup Day Tips Away From Flemington

Ten races will be run and won on 2023 Melbourne Cup Day at Flemington on Tuesday, but there are strong programs right around the country, and plenty of winners to be found!

With that in mind, I’ve run the rule over many of the cards in Australia on Tuesday, and I’ve provided my 2023 Melbourne Cup Day Tips at courses other than Flemington below.

Hobart: Race 4 (12:42pm AEDT)
No. 2 Gee Gee Miss Quita

I’m pretty keen on the third-up Gee Gee Miss Quita at Hobart on Tuesday.

Gee Gee Miss Quita dusted off the cobwebs with a fair effort to finish fifth, though well beaten at Hobart in September, but only just missed at her latest.

She’s had her runs spaced which seems to be the key to her, and this really does look the perfect race for her.

Kembla Grange: Race 2 (1:25pm AEDT)
No. 8 Brave Agenda

Brave Agenda only just missed a short odds in her first run back from a break, and this looks the perfect opportunity for her to break her maiden.

The Brave Smash filly returned some nice efforts during her two-year-old season, ending her prep with a run in black type company up in Brisbane.

With natural improvement on Tuesday, I don’t think she’ll be offered a better opportunity.

Kembla Grange: Race 4 (2:45pm AEDT)
No. 2 Joey D'or

Joey D’or steps out on Tuesday third-up and ready to win.

The Pariah gelding returned to action for third, beaten a length and a half here by Souttar, before hitting the line for second in a similar race at Gosford.

He has a key form and experience edge over several leading rivals today, and I think that will prove the difference.

Eagle Farm: Race 5 (3:43pm AEDT)
No. 6 Impendor

I thought that Impendor’s debut performance was full of merit, and he’ll derive plenty of improvement for that experience.

The Matt Dunn-trained gelding showed promise at the trials prior to debut, and he hit the line to finish second behind Tycoon Mistress here on debut just over a week ago.

On exposed form, he looks the one to beat here.

Randwick: Race 8 (4:50pm AEDT)
No. 8 Dragonstone

There is a lot to look forward to at Randwick on Tuesday, and I thought that Dragonstone was an outstanding bet in Race 8.

The Mikki Isle gelding has always been an above-average performer, and he raced extremely well during his first prep for the Joe Pride yard earlier this year, ending his campaign with consecutive placings in the Missile Stakes and the Show County Quality.

He is a winner at this point of his preparation previously, and he’s had the benefit of a trial leading up to Tuesday’s return.

The entire Big Dance Day program at Royal Randwick is excellent, and you can find my full day preview and tips RIGHT HERE.

Morphettville: Race 9 (5:25pm AEDT)
No. 4 Sabermetric

The consistent Sabermetric goes around in the penultimate race at Morphettville on Tuesday, and I thought it looked another very winnable one for him.

Sabermetric hasn’t missed placing at his last three trips to the races, winning over 1100m at Gawler two back before finishing within a length of the winner here at his latest.

He takes his place today in peak order and should receive every chance under Jake Toeroek.

each way
Eagle Farm: Race 8 (5:47pm AEDT)
No. 1 Lately

He does face a rise in class, but I thought that Lately rated as a genuine chance of winning again at Eagle Farm on Tuesday, at a lovely price ($14 at publish).

Lately did take a few starts to tune up when returning to action this time, but he has now one wo of his last three starts, highlighted by his effort in BM68 company at the Sunshine Coast last time out.

He’s hard fit this week and we can have an each way play at the price.

best bet
Ascot: Race 8 (7:20pm AEDT)
No. 1 Super Smink

The Listed Burgess Queen Stakes headlines the program at Ascot on Tuesday, and I think that it will be won by Super Smink.

Super Smink has hardly put a hoof wrong since debuting, winning four of six starts and placing on the other two occasions, finding form around some talented opposition in the process.

She returned to action to win the Listed Belgravia Stakes last week, and this looks the next logical target for her.
