Preview races for the Five Diamonds and the Big Dance headline the ten-race program at Royal Randwick on Saturday.
I’ve dug deep into the form of every galloper engaged, and you can find all of my 2023 Spring Wild Card Day Tips below!
Just one galloper in this year’s Kirkham Plate field has appeared at the races previously and many debutants are subsequently firm in betting.
I can’t find anything that I am particularly confident in, so I am happy to stay out of this one from a betting perspective.
Whodat has had almost no luck from the barriers that he has drawn recently, but he’s finally scored a good one this week (barrier 5), and I am confident that he can be in the finish of this Highway Handicap.
The Nicconi gelding finished down the order at Eagle Farm first-up from a break, but hasn’t been far away in each of his three subsequent starts.
He’s hard fit and one of these Highway races doesn’t look beyond him.
This week’s Midway is a typically open affair with plenty of winning chances engaged, including Xtrarevz.
Xtrarevz mixed his form a little last time in, but did record an eye-catching win in Class 1 company most notably.
Having returned to the races with a sharp performance and win in BM64 company at Kembla Grange earlier this month, he is worthy of a crack at something like this, and he’s open to plenty of improvement.
Marquess has opened favourite in betting ahead of Race 4 at Randwick on Saturday, and I am confident that he can justify the quote.
The Tavistock gelding has gone to a new level this time in, winning three of four starts and only just missing on the other occasion.
He’s chasing two in a row again this week following a smart win in BM88 company at Rosehill last month, and I really can’t find a reason why he won’t be in the finish.
I’m happy to stick with Rainbiel when she steps out a model of fitness at Randwick on Saturday.
Rainbiel has made three appearances at the races since joining Joe Pride’s care back in August, finishing second in BM78 company most notably, while laying a decent account of herself in Group 3 company last time out.
This is a genuine drop in class, and I think that the $9 about her at publish is a touch of overs.
Doull has also accepted into the Group Caulfield Sprint in Melbourne on Saturday, but I am hopeful that this is the way that trainer Annabel Neasham goes with him.
Doull has always hinted at ability without enjoying a whole lot of consistency since debuting, but I thought that there was plenty to like about his first run for the new stable when third, beaten just over half a length at Rosehill earlier this month.
With improvement, I think that something like this is well within his means.
Unspoken is two from two since returning from a break, and this looks a great opportunity for him to pull of the hat-trick.
Unspoken failed to get on the board last time in, but did return some nice performances around decent company in four autumn starts.
He returned a winner this time in BM78 company, before franking that performance in BM88 company at his latest.
The mile is ideal, he’s drawn and weighted well, and is my best bet on the program.
Good drop in class for Democracy Manifest, and I am confident his connections can enjoy a succulent Chinese meal from his winnings in the Five Diamonds Prelude.
He’s always been a good horse for the Waller yard, but Democracy Manifest has also been prone to a flat effort from time to time.
That being said, there’s no doubt that he has returned an improved galloper this time, winning the Cameron Handicap in Newcastle impressively before running fifth in the Epsom Handicap at his latest.
This is probably the most open race on the program and there are plenty of winning chances engaged, including Lion’s Roar.
Unlucky not to be a two-time Group 1 winner, Lion’s Roar hasn’t managed to return to the heights that saw him reign supreme in a Randwick Guineas, but he has continued to produce great performances for John O’Shea and team.
He has stripped fitter for two runs back from a break and was strong through the line when finally offered a clear line at Rosehill last time out.
Another John O’Shea galloper with winning claims at Randwick on Saturday is Pizarro.
Pizarro dusted off the cobwebs when ninth, beaten nearly four lengths by Kibou here at Randwick last month, before finishing fourth behind the likes of Airman over this route.
I like that he’s a few weeks between starts, and he’s another whom we can have something on each way this week ($11 at publish).
