2023 Bendigo Cup Day Tips & Preview

Feature racing continues through the midweeks, and we’re heading north-west of Melbourne of Wednesday for 2023 Bendigo Cup Day as the countdown to the Melbourne Cup on November 7 heats up!

There are nine winners to be found, and you can find my complete 2023 Bendigo Cup Day Tips below.

BRB Electrical Maiden Plate (1400m) – 12:30pm AEDT
No. 11 Alectrona

Alectrona has only just missed in each of two starts back from a break and is ready to win on Bendigo Cup Day.

The Team McEvoy-trained filly finished second, beaten a head at Ballarat at the beginning of the month before repeating that effort at the same course last time.

Fitter third-up and out to the 1400m today, this looks her opportunity.

No Fuss Event Hire 3YO BM64 Handicap (1300m) – 1pm AEDT
No. 3 Persian Spirit

Persian Spirit takes winning form into Race 2 at Bendigo on Wednesday and can continue his rise through the grades.

The Cable Bay gelding has only just missed at each of his two career starts to date, running second at Murtoa before an easy win in maiden company last time.

This is harder, but he’s open to further improvement and it does look the next logical step for him.

Turners Crossing BM64 Handicap (2400m) – 1:35pm AEDT
No. 4 Cadbury Castle

I thought that this looked a nice race for Cadbury Castle.

Cadbury Castle has made three appearances at the races since returning from a break, winning over 2350m at The ‘Bool most notably, and finishing just over a length behind the winner in BM70 company at his latest.

He looks to be in pea order this week, while the drop in class should also suit.

38th Battalion BM70 Handicap (1600m) – 2:10pm AEDT
No. 5 Tidal Force

Tidal Force is two wins from as many starts this time in, and rates as a key winning chance again on Bendigo Cup Day.

The four-year-old gelding showed some promise over in New Zealand in his debut prep, but really kicked into gear first-up here in Australia when breaking his maiden at Pakenham.

Having made it two in BM64 company last time out, something like this looks the next logical step for him.

Big Al’s Water BM64 Handicap (1100m) – 2:45pm AEDT
No. 1 Glock

There is a case to be made for a few of them in Race 5 at Bendigo on Wednesday, and I thought that Glock rated as a genuine chance at a price ($15 at publish).

Glock has been up and racing for some time, but he has continued to perform well in races not dissimilar to this one, and he does boast a good record here at Bendigo.

With some relief in the weights and boasting a fitness edge over some key rivals, we can have an each way play.

Bendigo Locksmiths BM78 Handicap (1100m) – 3:20pm AEDT
No. 7 Stormbolt

Stormbolt only just missed at his first start back from a break, and he looks well placed to go one better on Bendigo Cup Day.

The Foxwedge gelding returned some lovely performances last time in, striking at Flemington most notably, while I thought that his run behind Electric Impulse earlier this month was excellent.

With natural improvement, I can’t find a reason why he won’t be in the finish.

Group 3 Bendigo Cup (2400m) – 4pm AEDT
No. 1 Luncies

We’re set for a wide-open edition of the Bendigo Cup with plenty of winning chances engaged, including Luncies.

Luncies is yet to show his best in a couple of starts back from a break, but there’s no doubt that he has stripped fitter for both, and he really wasn’t disgraced in a strong Hill Stakes at Randwick last time out.

Fitter third-up, out to a mile and a half and under Blake Shinn, he really does get a lot of ticks this week.

Catanach’s Jewellers BM70 Handicap (1300m) – 4:40pm AEDT
No. 8 Jimmysstar

Jimmysstar makes his Australian debut on Bendigo Cup Day, and I’m confident that it will be a positive one.

The Per Incanto gelding has made just three appearances at the races since debuting, winning twice, including a dominant display at Hastings in September.

With some residual fitness and in something of this quality, I think he can progress into a really nice race.

Benchmark 78 Handicap (1400m) – 5:20pm AEDT
No. 7 Belthil

I’m happy to stick with Belthil in the last on Bendigo Cup Day.

He returned to action with a nice performance to finish third, beaten a couple of lengths out at Benalla in September, but took plenty of improvement into an eye-catching win at Caulfield on Neds Coongy Cup Day.

Fitter third-up, I think this looks a similarly winnable race for him.
