Daily Racing Tips – Wednesday, September 13

Canterbury: Race 1 (1:25pm)
No. 8 Makarena

Makarena returned a very promising performance on debut at Randwick-Kensington and looks well placed to break her maiden at Canterbury today.

The Team Hawkes-trained filly won a couple of trials at Rosehill prior to debuting and hit the line behind Nadal in her only start last month.

With natural improvement, she can begin her rise through the grades.

Sandown: Race 5 (2:45pm)
No. 12 Riproar

Kiwi raider Riproar drops in class at Sandown today and can return to winning form.

The Andrew Forsman-trained gelding only just missed in Bendigo at his Australian debut last month, before tiring late in a stronger Saturday race at The Valley last time, finishing seventh.

Fitter third-up and back to the midweeks, Damian Lane jumps back into the saddle and adds further confidence to the horse’s chances.

Sandown: Race 7 (3:55pm)
No. 14 Ana Jaahza

Ana Jaahza hasn’t been seen at the races since March, but she was excellent during her debut prep, and she can make a winning return at Sandown today.

The daughter of Better Than Ready stamped herself as one to watch by winning on debut at Ballarat, and she went to the paddock after finishing second behind Brave Mead at Listed level.

This is a drop in class from that race, and she has reportedly furnished into a strong horse since her last appearance.

Sandown: Race 9 (5:05pm)
No. 1 Tijuana

Group 2 winner Tijuana goes around in the last at Sandown today and looks a bit of value in my opinion at current odds ($11 at publish).

The American Pharoah entire stamped himself as one to watch last spring, peaking with an eye-catching win in Stutt Stakes. He has improved for three starts back this time, all in Saturday metro company, and he was last seen finishing second behind Edison in a BM100 race at Flemington.

Ben Melham jumps into the saddle, and we can have an each way play today.
