2023 Moir Stakes Night Tips & Preview

We don’t have to wait long until the feature racing kicks off this week, and we’re off to The Valley on Friday for Moir Stakes Night!

The Group 1 feature is one of eight events on the program, and you can find my preview for each and 2023 Moir Stakes Night Tips below.

Drummond Golf Handicap (1500m) – 6:15pm
No. 9 Delicious Tycoon

There is a case to be made for a few of them in the first on Moir Stakes Night, including Delicious Tycoon.

Delicious Tycoon has missed placing at her last three appearances, striking in BM78 company at Flemington most notably, and finding form around some classy opposition.

She’s hard fit, has performed well at The Valley previously and we can have an each way play at current odds ($7 at publish).

best bet
Xtreme Freight Plate (1200m) – 6:45pm
No. 3 Brave Mead

Brave Mead steps out on Friday night second-up, and he will relish a drop in class.

The Brave Smash colt won a couple of races in succession during his debut prep, including the Listed St Albans over this route, while he returned a nice effort to finish third behind Steparty in the McKenzie Stakes first-up this time.

There is no galloper of that quality engaged in this contest, while Brave Mead is open to plenty of improvement.

each way
MSC Signs Handicap (1200m) – 7:15pm
No. 4 Zac De Boss

This looks to be another open race with several winning chances engaged, and I thought that Zac De Boss could have an impact at a nice price ($7.50 at publish).

Zac De Boss doesn’t win out of turn, but he has been racing in consistent form in Saturday metro company throughout his campaign and he was last seen filling the minors in Listed company at Morphettville.

He’s another that steps out tonight in peak order, and another whom we can have something on each way.

Ladbrokes 55 Second Challenge Heat 1 (955m) – 7:45pm
No. 4 Fetch

Queensland raider Fetch is an interesting acceptor in Friday’s short and sharp sprint, and I think that she can win it.

Fetch hasn’t been seen at the races since April, but she was a typically consistent performer in Brisbane last time in, winning over 1050m at her first start back.

Her fresh record as a whole is outstanding and she’s drawn to receive every chance tonight.

Group 3 Stutt Stakes (1600m) – 8:15pm
No. 2 Fistsoffury

Some excellent mares have won the Stutt Stakes previously, and I think that Fistsoffury can join the list on Friday.

Fistsoffury has improved for each of her three starts back from a break, culminating in an eye-catching performance and win over 1500m here last time out.

This is a rise in class, but she’s hard fit, Jye McNeil rides and importantly, she’s proven at The Valley.

Group 2 Stocks Stakes (1600m) – 8:45pm
Same Race Multi

Amelia’s Jewel will go around in this year’s Stocks Stakes and unsurprisingly, she’s opened a $1.35 favourite in betting.

She’s a star, and she debuted on the east coast to win the Let’s Elope Stakes a couple of weeks ago, looking like she probably needed that run.

I think she’ll win this, but she’s too short for me at that price, so I am instead going to select her as the winner in a Same Race Multi and pump up my odds with Steinem running into the first three at big odds – I think that at her best, she’s the one that can give Amelia’s Jewel a challenge in something like this.

Same Race Multi selections:

  • 6 Amelia’s Jewel (Win)
  • 1 Steinem (Top 3)
Group 1 Moir Stakes (1000m) – 9:15pm
No. 7 Imperatriz

I love a Friday night Group 1 at The Valley, and some outstanding sprinters have accepted into the Moir Stakes field.

I’ve put Imperatriz on top, but check out my full race preview and complete 2023 Moir Stakes Tips RIGHT HERE.

Group 3 Scarborough Stakes (1200m) – 9:45pm
No. 1 Skirt The Law

I love a program ending with a black type race, and we’re set for a good edition of the Scarborough Stakes on Friday!

Queenslander Skirt The Law has improved for two starts since arriving in Melbourne, and I think she’s going to take a power of beating this week.

Having enjoyed a glittering two-year-old prep that peaked with her dominant win in the Magic Millions Classic, Skirt The Law has clearly required her first two runs back this time to tune up, but I’m confident she’s cherry ripe for this one.
