2023 Feehan Stakes Day Tips & Preview

Ballot-free entry into the Cox Plate goes on the line at The Valley on Feehan Stakes Day!

With other races like the McEwen Stakes, Atlantic Jewel Stakes and McKenzie Stakes also on the program, there’s plenty of value to be found in betting, and you can find my complete Feehan Stakes Day Tips below.

Inglis Ready2Race Sale 10 Oct Handicap (1500m) – 12:10pm
No. 7 Autumn Angel

Autumn Angel returned a winner at Sandown last month and can continue her rise through the grades at The Valley on Saturday.

The three-year-old filly only just missed behind Legacies on debut back in April and was immediately put away, and she couldn’t have been much more impressive in her first run back.

With natural improvement, I can’t find a reason why she won’t be in the finish.

PFD Food Services Handicap (1600m) – 12:40pm
No. 5 Sokanon

This looks like a reasonably open race, but I thought it also looked a nice one for Sokanon.

Sokanon returned to action with a fair effort to finish fourth at Sandown last month, in what was actually his first start in Australia.

He was a strong and consistent performer over in New Zealand last time in and he is drawn to receive every chance this week under Damien Oliver.

Ladbrokes Challenger Handicap (2040m) – 1:15pm
No. 5 Superstock

Superstock takes winning form into what shapes as another very winnable race.

The Team Kavanagh-trained gelding has been up and racing for some time, but he has continued to return eye-catching efforts and was last seen hitting the line to salute over this route last time.

He’s hard fit and understandably, Craig Williams retains the ride.

Drummond Golf Handicap (1200m) – 1:50pm
No. 1 Corner Pocket

Talented galloper Corner Pocket makes his return to the races on Feehan Stakes Day and it looks a very winnable campaign launchpad for him.

The Toronado gelding has won nine of eighteen career starts so far, placing a further six times and finding form around some talented.

He continued to find as the bar was raised last time in, winning the Chester Manifold Stakes most notably, while he is yet to miss placing in six previous fresh attempts.

Listed McKenzie Stakes (1200m) – 2:25pm
No. 3 Brave Mead

Good edition of the McKenzie Stakes with some classy three-year-old sprinters engaged, including Brave Mead.

Brave Mead made four appearances at the races during his debut prep, winning twice, highlighted by a dominant effort in Listed company over this route.

He’s had a couple of trials leading up to his return and we know he’ll handle the unique conditions at The Valley.

Listed Atlantic Jewel Stakes (1200m) – 3pm
No. 2 Treasurway

This is also an outstanding edition of the Atlantic Jewel Stakes and while Charm Stone has opened a justifiable favourite in betting, I am going to take her on.

The value in Atlantic Jewel Stakes betting, in my opinion, lies with the resuming Treasurway ($20 at publish).

Treasurway was low flying during her debut racing preparation, but also outstanding, placing in races like the Festival Stakes and The Showdown before breaking her maiden in Group 3 company.

Jamie Kah jumped into the saddle for the first time on Saturday, and with options in running from the rails draw, we can have an each way play.

Strathmore Community Bendigo Bank Handicap (2040m) – 3:35pm
No. 7 Berkeley Square

Berkeley Square has improved for two starts back from a pretty lengthy break and he returns to the scene of his greatest triumph to date, on Saturday.

The Territories gelding enjoyed something of a meteoric rise to prominence during last year’s Spring Carnival, and led home a smart field to win the Moonee Valley Vase over this route, most notably.

I thought he looked a lot sharper at his most recent appearances, and this is obviously an ideal race for him.

Group 2 McEwen Stakes (1000m) – 4:15pm
No. 1 Giga Kick

Only seven horses have accepted into the field, but given some of them can be ranked amongst the world’s best sprinters, there’s every chance the McEwen Stakes will be the standout contest of the week!

That being said, Giga Kick is the just the best of them, and while he’s yet to have a look at The Valley, I think he’ll be winning.

His win in The Everest last year was a thing of beauty, and the Scissor Kick gelding continued to go from strength to strength in his prep earlier this year, concluding with consecutive Group 1 victories.

This is his launchpad and I have no doubt he’ll improve for it, but I also think he’ll win it as well.

Group 2 Feehan Stakes (1600m) – 4:15pm
No. 7 Pinstriped

Ballot-free entry into the Cox Plate goes on the line in the Feehan Stakes and while there are plenty of talented gallopers engaged, I am pretty keen on the each way chances of Pinstriped.

Pinstriped has been a great horse for the Enver Jusofovic yard since making his debut, and he was unlucky not to strike at the highest level during his three-year-old season.

He was excellent in the autumn and winter of this year, and he returned to finish second behind Mr Brightside in the PB Lawrence, who has since franked the form by winning the Memsie Stakes.

Fitter second-up and out to a mile, I thought the $8 about him in Feehan Stakes betting at publish was a touch of overs.

Powerflo Solutions Handicap (1600m) – 5:25pm
No. 10 Hennessy Lad

Happy to stick with last-start winner Hennessy Lad in the last on Feehan Stakes Day.

Hennessy Lad has improved noticeably with each of three starts back from a break, culminating in a win here at The Valley last time.

He’s hard fit and clearly loves the conditions here!
