Premier League Game Week 2 Tips & Preview

Premier League Game Week 2 Tips & Preview

There were no big surprises across the opening week of the EPL, Haaland is still a goal scoring robot, the Blues and the Reds played out a fifth straight draw, Man U steals a win, and Tottenham bottles it.

The fixtures only get tastier in Game Week 2, with City hosting Newcastle, Arsenal traveling to Selhurst Park and Ange taking on Man United!

We’ve previewed every Premier League fixture across the weekend and provided our best betting plays below!

NOTTINGHAM FOREST VS SHEFFIELD UNITED
Forest to Win $1.85

At risk of going the early crow, these two sides could very well be battling for survival come the end of the season.

Notts’ poor preseason form spilled into game week 1, as they offered up a very subdued performance against the Gunners, finishing the game with 21% possession.

Meanwhile, the Blades returned to the top-flight with a 0-1 defeat at home to Crystal Palace, a game which they were thoroughly outclassed across the ground.

30 of Forest’s 38 competition points last season came at their home ground, with no other side having a larger disparity between home and away form.

I’m backing Nottingham to get the job done here, with the Blades starting their EPL campaign 0-2.

FULHAM VS BRENTFORD
Fulham to Win $2.60

Fulham and Brentford were big overachievers last season, finishing 10th and 9th respectively, with daylight to Palace (11th) in the bottom half of the table.

There are question marks above both sides heading into this campaign, with Toney a long-term out for the Bee’s, while Mitrovic is looking to force a move away from the Cottagers.

Tottenham played into Brentford’s strengths in GW1, allowing the Bees plenty of space in behind to attack, space which they won’t be afforded against Fulham.

The home team has won the last four meetings between this pair, with 4.5+ goals scored in the last three!

I’m backing Fulham to add to their victory against Everton last week, taking all three points at home.

LIVERPOOL VS BOURNEMOUTH
Liverpool (-2) $2.45

Both Liverpool and Bournemouth enter this fixture off the back of 1-1 draws in GW1.

The Reds failed to take advantage of their early dominance against the Blues last week, with their lack of quality at the #6 hampering their ability to build through the midfield.

The Cherries miraculously stunned the Reds 1-0 at the Vitality Stadium the last time these two met, breaking a spell of seven straight Liverpool victories in this fixture, including a 9-0 result at Anfield last season.

With question marks still hanging over their defence, Liverpool’s front three will be hoping to have an absolute field day at the expense of the Cherries.

I have them winning big!

LUTON VS BURNLEY (Postponed)

Luton’s ground is not yet equipped for Premier League broadcasting.

WOLVES VS BRIGHTON
Brighton to Win $1.83

The Seagulls fly to Molineux Stadium where they will be targeting two straight wins to start their season.

Brighton has enjoyed this fixture in recent times, winning their last three meetings against the Wolves at an aggregate of 12-2, including two road victories.

Meanwhile, Wolverhampton were unlucky to leave Old Trafford without any points, dominating proceedings only to fall short in the final third, the story of their 2022/23 season.

Despite losing several key players, I’m expecting Brighton to have another cracking season.

TOTTENHAM VS MAN UNITED
Over 3.5 Total Goals $2.55

Ange is set to manage his first home Premier League fixture against non other than Manchester United!

The Spurs secured a point on the road to Brentford in GW1, but despite controlling the ball for the majority of contest, Ange’s side looked extremely vulnerable on the counter.

Much like Brentford, transition football is Man U’s bread and butter, with the likes of Rashford, Antony and Bruno all possessing the ability to break rapidly.

I get the feeling that we’ll be seeing some end-to-end football played out here, with goals flowing at both ends of the pitch.

MAN CITY VS NEWCASTLE
Newcastle or Draw $2.30

Match of the round comes curtesy of an Oil money derby between Man City and Newcastle.

Both outfits got off to a flier in GW1, City cruised to a comfortable 3-0 victory against Burnley, while the Toon romped five past a hapless Villa defence.

City will be without their club captain and star midfielder Kevin De Bruyne, who limped off the field early against Burnley with a suspected hamstring tear.

Man City, who already entered the season without the service of previous captain Gundogan, will be left short handed in the creative department, with KDB recording 16 assists last campaign, 8 of which were for Haaland.

Meanwhile, the Toon have bolstered their already improving squad, adding a goalscoring threat in Harvey Barns, and midfield maestro Tonaili.

The Sky Blues are traditionally slow starters in the league, and with the Toon firing on all cylinders at the moment, I can see them upsetting the apple cart here.

ASTON VILLA VS EVERTON
Aston Villa and Under 3.5 Goals $2.30

Villa search for redemption in GW2 after their 5-1 humbling at the hands of Newcastle.

They’ll take on an Everton side coming off a 0-1 home defeat to Fulham and no real avenue to goal.

Aston Villa has won the last four meetings between this pair, conceding just one goal across the trip.

Everton will be a tough defensive unit to crack under Sean Dyche, but I can’t see them holding out this lethal Villa unit for 90+ minutes.

WEST HAM VS CHELSEA
Chelsea & Over 1.5 Goals $2.40

West Ham play host to Chelsea in a London derby.

Both sides enter this fixture off the back of 1-1 stalemates in GW1, only Chelsea drew to Liverpool while the Hammers were held to a point by Bournemouth.

The Blues largely controlled possession against the Reds, and should see their dominance on the ball translate into more scoring opportunities against a weaker Irons side.

I think we’re going to see multiple goals in this derby, most of which will be attributed to the visitors.

CRYSTAL PALACE VS ARSENAL
Arsenal to Win & Both Teams to Score $3.60

We’re set for another London derby to close out Game Week 2, as the Gunners travel to Selhurst park.

Both sides enter this fixture off the back of wins in GW1, the Eagles edged Sheffield 1-0, while Arsenal held off Forest 2-1.

The Gunners have enjoyed playing at Selhurst Park in recent history, losing just once in their last six outings (3W,2D).

Arsenal’s defence has been out of sorts of late, keeping one clean sheet across their last eight games in all comps.

I’m backing Arteta’s boys to get the job done, but not without conceding a goal or two.
