Daily Racing Tips – Wednesday, August 16

Sandown: Race 2 (1:35pm)
No. 4 Magic

We were with Magic when he resumed in Sydney last month, and I thought he was very good.

The Snitzel gelding has been a decent performer, largely in black type company throughout his career, and he probably couldn’t have done a lot more first-up this time without winning.

With natural improvement, he might not be offered a better opportunity to win than this.

Canterbury: Race 5 (3:45pm)
No. 10 High Plateau

High Plateau can return to winning form today at Canterbury.

The Lonhro gelding was excellent during his debut prep, winning two of three starts, and he returned this time to finish third in BM64 company.

This is harder, but he’s open to plenty of improvement, and the booking of James McDonald adds further confidence.

Sandown: Race 6 (3:55pm)
No. 13 Terrestar

Terrestar is another second up galloper that appears well placed to strike today at Sandown.

The Team Hawkes-trained mare returned some smart efforts last time in, breaking her maiden at Pakenham before producing a fair effort in the Group 2 Kewney Stakes.

I thought that she was good when fourth, beaten only a length in Saturday metro company in Sydney first up this time, and this is a drop in class.

Sandown: Race 8 (5:05pm)
No. 13 Extratwo

Extratwo is another galloper that should relish a drop in class today at Sandown.

The Toronado mare returned a winner out at Kyneton back in May, and she as last seen finishing fifth in Stakes company at Flemington.

She’s around six weeks between starts, but she clearly goes well fresh, and she is clearly up to winning something of this quality.
