Suggested Bets:

  • 3 Units straight out #1 Chaldean
  • Boxed Trifecta of the selections below
St James's Palace Stakes - Winner
No. 1 Chaldean

I’m happy to follow the early money in St James’s Palace Stakes betting, which has seen Chaldean into $2.80 favouritism (at publish).

Chaldean unseated his rider at his first run back this time, but his second run was far better, and saw him easily account for his rivals in the Group 1 2000 Guineas.

Fitter third-up, staying at his pet trip of a mile and under Frankie Dettori, he does look very hard to beat.

St James's Palace Stakes - 2nd
No. 8 Paddington

Paddington has recorded three wins from as many starts back this time, and I can’t find a reason why he won’t be in the finish of the St James’s Palace Stakes as well.

The Aidan O’Brien-trained has actually only missed once in five career starts to date and that one on debut here at Ascot last September.

Since there, he has clearly gone from strength, and he was last seen recording the first Group 1 win of his career at The Curragh.

This is another step up in class, but the booking of Ryan Moore is obviously a big enhancer for his winning claims.

St James's Palace Stakes - 3rd
No. 6 Isaac Shelby

I think that Isaac Shelby can and will run a big race in the St James’s Palace Stakes.

Isaac Shelby has won three of his five career starts since debuting, and returned a winner in Group 3 company at Newbury back in April before only just missing in a French Group 1 at his latest.

Fitter third-up, he clearly loves the mile, and I am more than happy to give him another chance tonight from an inside draw.

St James's Palace Stakes - 4th
No. 3 Cicero's Gift

Cicero’s Gift puts an unbeaten record on the line in the St James’s Palace Stakes, but there is no doubt that this is easily the toughest task that he has been set.

The son of Muhaarar won easily on debut at Newbury back in October, and he has put paid to them in both starts back this time as well.

He takes his place in the St James’s Palace Stakes field in peak order, and I think he will be competitive.
