The Gold Cup is arguably the most highly anticipated feature race at Royal Ascot every year and a world-class field of stayers will step out tonight.
Often times, the Gold Cup has produced genuine Melbourne Cup contenders, and a big effort of the 4014m tonight will almost certainly see a few firm in betting for Australia’s famous race.

I’m looking for a bit of value in Gold Cup betting this year, and I think that it lies with Yibir ($14 at publish).
The Dubawi gelding has amassed an impressive record of seven wins and six minors from his 17 career starts to date, and he returned from a long break to finish fourth, beaten only two lengths at Newbury last month.
With improvement and getting out in trip, I think he’ll be right in the finish, and I am a big fan of Charlie Appleby’s horses is feature races.
Coltrane will stay all day and he rates as a key winning chance in this year’s Gold Cup.
The Mastercraftsman gelding has been a strong and consistent performer throughout his career, and he returned to action with a dominant win in the Group 3 Gold Cup Trial here last month.
Balding has sent horses to Australia for the Melbourne Cup previously, and we could see Coltrane book his ticket tonight!
Echoes In Rain is another galloper that looks capable of a big showing in the Gold Cup.
The Willie Mullins-trained stayer has a fitness edge on his side, winning two of four starts back this time, including the Group 1 Irish Mares Champion Hurdle.
A return to the flat shouldn’t be a worry at all, while the booking of Tom Marquand does add further confidence.
Aidan O’Brien – tick. Ryan Moore – tick. An ideal draw and conditions to suit – tick, tick!
Emily Dickinson has been set for the Gold Cup, and she should be given every chance in tonight’s feature race.
The Dubawi mare has won just three of her thirteen career starts to date, but there is no doubt that she has continued to improve with each preparation, and she returned a dominant winner at Navan this time.
She steps out tonight fitter third-up and following a decent effort in Group 3 company, and I’m keen to see what she can do in this contest.
