2023 VRC National Jockeys Trust Day Tips & Preview

We’re heading back to Flemington for the second time in as many weeks on Saturday for another exciting nine-race program.

I’ve run the rule over the entire card, and you can find my complete Flemington Tips below.

Jockey Appreciation Plate (1400m) – 11:50am
No. 2 Riff Rocket

Riff Rocket was a smart winner on debut at Geelong and can continue his rise through the grades at Flemington on Saturday.

The American Pharoah gelding enjoyed a nice run in transit before hitting the line to win the 1225m sprint.

This is a harder assignment, but the horse looks to have plenty of ability and can continue his rise through the grades.

Living Legends Plate (1400m) – 12:25pm
No. 6 Free Willed

Free Willed is another horse that can continue her rise through the grades at HQ this week.

The Tivaci filly finished second on debut behind Clock Strikes in March and hasn’t looked back, winning each of her two subsequent starts impressively.

Given that her last performance came off a gap of about five weeks, I’m expecting improvement when she steps out on Saturday.

Stableline Sprint (1100m) – 1pm
No. 9 Sigh

Sigh can make a winning return in Race 3.

The No Nay Never mare was excellent in her recent short summer prep, resuming for an easy win in BM70 company at Sandown before only just missing behind Jungle Jim here.

She’s three from three at this point of her preparation and I think that she’ll take a power of beating.

National Jockeys Trust Trophy (2000m) – 1:35pm
No. 1 Dashing

Dashing takes winning form into the fourth at Flemington on Saturday and can make it two in a row.

His form right the way through his preparation has been nothing short of outstanding, and he hasn’t missed placing in six starts, winning twice and only just missing in Listed company most notably.

Even though he has drawn out in the carpark, but he has most of these rivals covered for class and can win again.

SENTrack Supports The NJT Trophy (2500m) – 2:10pm
No. 11 Union Gap

Union Gap has recorded two wins from as many starts back this time and rates as a key winning chance again in the fifth on VRC National Jockeys Trust Day.

The Redwood gelding returned a dominant winner at Warwick Farm in late March and franked that performance with another eye-catching one at the same course.

This is harder, but he should relish the big track at HQ, and he has been charged with carrying just 54kgs.

best bet
In Memory Of Dean Holland (1800m) – 2:45pm
No. 11 Altivo

Altivo was simply outstanding here last week and will take a power of beating again third-up on Saturday.

The Wootton Bassett gelding has been faultless since making his debut, winning four of four career starts, each better than its predecessor.

From Barrier 4, I think he just wins again.

3AW Sprint (1100m) – 3:25pm
No. 4 Renosu

Renosu will appreciate a drop in grade at Flemington on Saturday and can return to winning form.

The Exceed And Excel gelding was too good for his rivals in BM72 company at Warwick Farm back in March, and was only just denied by What You Need in the Listed Sunlight Classic here at Flemington.

He was last seen finishing fourth in the Listed Redelva at Morphettville, and a repeat of any of those performances would see him right into the finish of this one as well.

VJA Winter Championship Trophy (1600m) – 4:05pm
No. 3 Pinstriped

Pinstriped looks well placed to strike again at HQ on Saturday.

The talented son of Street Boss has been the stable star for Enver Jusofovic throughout his career, and he has improved with each of his four starts back this time, culminating in a dominant performance in the VOBIS Gold Mile last month.

He is five weeks between starts, but a mile at HQ is perfect and I think he’ll be winning again.

each way
Jockey Assistance Program Plate (1200m) – 4:40pm
No. 12 South Of Houston

South Of Houston can win the last at Flemington on Saturday.

She has been a consistent performer since making her debut, finishing second in three of four starts and breaking her maiden on the other occasion.

She steps out this week in peak order, gets into the race well and with even luck, I don’t think she’d be offered a better opportunity to win in town on a Saturday.
