Nine races will be run and won on 2023 Coronation Cup Day at Sandown this Saturday.
You can find a preview of each race and my complete Sandown Tips below.
An open race full of debutants to begin the program and plenty of them are prominent in betting!
I can’t find anything that I am particularly confident in, and I am happy to watch, with a view towards something down the road.
Charmed Run faces a rise in class at Sandown on Saturday, but she also puts an unbeaten record on the line, and I am confident that she will lay an excellent account for herself again.
The Charm Spirit filly stamped herself as one to watch with an easy win on debut in December, and she returned for another quality win at Mornington last month.
With improvement from that hit-out, something like this doesn’t look beyond her, but we can have an each way at around the $8 mark (at publish).
Miss Balvenie was scratched from a race at The ‘Bool on Wednesday to run here, and I am confident she repay the faith.
The Vanbrugh mare hasn’t been seen at the races since October, but she returned some smart performances around some quality gallopers last time in, and her fresh record is unblemished.
She’s drawn a peach here under Ben Melham and can kick off her prep in style.
Unflinching has gone to another level recently and looms as the one to beat again in the fourth at Sandown on Saturday.
The I Am Invincible was only just denied in his first two runs back from a break but hasn’t taken a backwards step since, winning each of his last three, all at The Valley, impressively.
He is rock-hard fit and a genuine sprinter, and I can’t find a reason why he won’t be in the finish again.
Cap De Joie has also returned to the races in strong and consistent form and can win again on Coronation Cup Day.
The Farhh mare finished second, beaten less than a length here at Sandown first-up from a break before delivering a smart field a pretty handsome defeat over a mile at The Valley.
She steps out this week in peak order and after only just missing over 1700m, and I think the drop back to a mile on Saturday suits.
I’m happy to give Elkington Road one last chance in this 1800m race on Coronation Cup Day.
The Mike Moroney-trained gelding is yet to strike in four starts back this time, but he wasn’t disgraced in the Australian Guineas, and followed up that performance with a credible third placing in the Bendigo Guineas.
His last performance over a mile at Mornington suggested he was looking for a bit further, and I’m keen to see him out to the 1800m for the first time on Saturday.
Globe remains undefeated and has opened $1.85 favourite in King’s Coronation Cup betting.
The Charm Spirit gelding stamped himself as one to watch with a dominant win on debut at Pakenham, and he has since recording wins in 0-64 company and BM64 company.
This is another rise in class, but he continues to jump as the bar is raised, and I think he’ll do it again!
Pinstriped couldn’t have been more impressive here three weeks ago, and he steps out over the same route this week.
The Street Boss gelding was unlucky not to win a Group 1 race during his three-year-old season, and while he hasn’t returned to those heights at four, he has still returned some smart effort.
His has improved with each of his four back this time and was nothing short of dominant last time out.
Not the easiest way to end the day from a betting perspective and at publish, we’re faced with $6 the field.
He’s Our Bonneval returns for the first time this year and does boast a good fresh record, so I am going to have something small on him each way.
The Siyouni gelding has been a consistent performer throughout his career and returned a winner of a similar race at Caulfield last time.
