Ballot-free entry into the 2023 Melbourne Cup goes on the line on The Andrew Ramsden Day!
Further to the winner of the feature race, there are eight winners to be found at Flemington, and you can find all of my 2023 Andrew Ramsden Day Tips below.
This is a rise in class for Scheelite, but I thought that he was great on debut, and he can continue his rise through the grades.
The Real Steel colt settled off the pace at Sandown a fortnight ago but mustered a nice turn of foot to run on and just get there.
With improvement for that experience, this doesn’t look beyond him.
Private Jumbo is yet to return a poor effort, and he can record another win on Andrew Ramsden Day.
The Reward For Effort gelding finished second each of his first three career starts, including his first back this time, before breaking his maiden in bullish fashion at Geelong last time.
Fitter third-up, something like this does look the next logical target!
There’s a case to be made for a few of them in Race 3, including the resuming Artika.
Artika hasn’t been seen at the races this year, but she raced well and consistently last time in, filling the minors in BM70 first-up before winning over a mile, most notably.
She is yet to miss a placing at this point of her preparation, and we can have an each way play at her current price ($11 at publish).
I’m going to give Typhoon Harmony another chance at HQ on Saturday.
He’s yet to strike in three starts back from a spell, but there is no doubt that Typhoon Harmony has improved for each, and he was only just denied in a similar race on Neds Mornington Cup Day.
The big track at Flemington should suit, while he’s drawn to receive every chance under Ben Melham.
Tass has drawn into this race a little awkwardly, but she has enjoyed a great start to her racing career, and I’m happy to stick with her on Andrew Ramsden Day.
The Kingman filly broke her maiden second-up at The Valley in early March, and she was last seen filling the minors in the Group 3 Alexandra Stakes.
She’s been freshened since that appearance, and this does look a nice kick-off point for her again.
Jimmy The Bear was scratched from a race at The ‘Bool last week to instead contest the Straight Six fresh, and I think he can have a real impact.
Jimmy The Bear was excellent during his most recent preparation, particularly early on when winning four of five starts and finding form around some talented opposition.
Harry Coffey should be able to find some cover before launching him late, and I thought that the $15 about him in Straight Six betting at publish was over the odds.
Ballot-free entry into the Melbourne Cup goes on the line and I think it’ll be claimed by early Cup favourite, White Marlin.
White Marlin did suffer the first defeat of his racing career at Pakenham last time out, but he was spotting the horse that won nearly 7kgs in the weights, and he finished just a head off the pace.
Fitter third-up, back to Flemington and out to a serious trip, I think he’ll probably win comfortably.
Cherry Tortoni clearly needed his first run back for nearly a year in the Anniversary Vase to blow out the cobwebs, and I am going to give him another chance back at HQ on Saturday.
The Night Oh Thunder gelding has been a great horse for the Patty Payne yard since making his debut, and he was unlucky not to record a Group 1 victory during his three-year-old prep.
He is a hard that tends to enjoy good improvement with a run under his belt, and he’s another who I think is over the odds at his current price ($16 at publish).
I thought that Renosu was a little disappointing at Listed level last time out, but he steps out this week in peak order and it does look something on an easier task.
The Exceed And Excel gelding has recorded three wins and as many placings from his thirteen career starts, and he just found a couple of them a little too sharp last time out.
Getting out to 1400m this week suits and the booking of Ben Melham adds further confidence.
