2023 The Galaxy Tips

There are five Group 1 features to enjoy at Rosehill Gardens on Golden Slipper Day, but owing to how open of a race it usually is, and with plenty of value to be found in betting, The Galaxy is usually my favourite.

Typically, a talented field of sprinters is engaged, and there is a case to be made for nearly every single one of them in The Galaxy.

I’ve had a crack, and you can find my complete 2023 The Galaxy Tips below.

Suggested Bets

  • 3 Units straight out #1 Eduardo
  • Boxed Trifecta of the selections below
The Galaxy - Winner
No. 1 Eduardo

His best might be behind him, but there is no denying that this is the weakest Group 1 race that Eduardo has contest for some time, and at publish, we’re getting $8.50 about him!

The Host gelding has always been a good horse, but he clearly went to a whole new level when transferring to the care of Joe Pride a few seasons ago, and he has maintained his ability the whole way through.

He has drawn awkwardly, and he has been charged with carry topweight, but Nash Rawiller knows him better than anyone. He’ll take him forward, run them ragged, and then run away from them.

The Galaxy - 2nd
No. 6 Asfoora

She was gallant in defeat when third in the Oakleigh Plate first-up from a spell, and The Galaxy does look the next logical target for Asfoora.

Asfoora has been the stable star for Henry Dwyer, pretty much since making her debut, and she was excellent throughout her 2022 preparation in picking off some really nice races.

She does look to have a Group 1 or two in her, and outside of races like the Sangster and the Doomben 10,000, this is probably the best one for her!

The Galaxy - 3rd
No. 2 Uncommon James

He ruined my trifecta in the Oakleigh Plate, but that performance did make me a lot more of an Uncommon James believer, and I can’t really find a reason why he won’t be in the finish of The Galaxy has well.

The Cable Bay gelding has been a strong and consistent performer for Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted since debuting, but I’ll admit that I was one of those people who assumed that beating Saturday fields in Brisbane wouldn’t translate into southern Group 1 success.

Alas, he’s already proven me wrong, and he does look a chance of becoming the first horse since Russian Revolution to do the Oakleigh Plate/The Galaxy double.

The Galaxy - 4th
No. 9 Shades Of Rose

Perfect Group 1 race for Shades Of Rose, and I think she’ll return her typically excellent fresh performance in The Galaxy.

The Rubick mare won four races in succession last time in, and she ended her prep a gallant eighth in The Everest, finishing just over three lengths behind Giga Kick.

She’s had two very nice trials in the lead-up to her return and looks a bit of value at The Galaxy odds of $10 (at publish).
