For the second time in as many weeks, Group 1 racing graces Rosehill Gardens in Sydney’s west on Saturday!
I’ve had a dig into the form of every runner and every race, and you can find my 2023 Tancred Stakes Day Tips below.
Tampering hasn’t been seen at the races since December, but he boasts a great fresh record, and he looks a winning chance in this week’s Midway Handicap.
The Pendragon gelding returned several typically pleasing performances in races not dissimilar to this one last time in, finding form around some quality gallopers.
He’s drawn well, gets some relief in the weights, and we can have an each way play at around the $13 mark (at publish).
The Years was great in the Black Opal last time out without winning, and I think that he can go one better in this Group 3 contest.
The Years has made just three appearances at the races since debuting, but broke his maiden in devastating fashion at Kembla Grange before finishing second behind stable mate Autumn Ballet last time out.
He has plenty of upside and Regan Bayliss retains the ride.
I’m sticking with Major Beel when he takes his place in the Tulloch Stakes field.
Major Beel recorded consecutive victories at Newcastle and Warwick Farm resuming this time, and he was last seen finishing a credible fourth in open BM78 company here at Rosehill.
The small rise in trip suits, as does a return to three-year-olds company, and I think it’s a great opportunity at some black type.
Benaud was scratched from the Tancred Stakes to instead run in the Neville Sellwood, and I think that it will prove to be the correct decision.
Benaud has finished off the pace in each of his first two starts back this time, but he was always going to improve with a couple under his belt, and getting further out in trip.
He carries a light weight this week and is drawn to receive every chance from barrier 6.
Athelric strips fitter for a nice first-up effort for second, and he can go one better in Saturday’s Star Kingdom Stakes.
The Exceed And Excel gelding ended his last prep with a lovely performance and win in the lucrative The Warra sprint at Kembla Grange, and he kept his best work for late into second behind Cannonball in the Maurice McCarten Stakes a fortnight ago.
Given that horse has since come out and placed in Group 1 company, the form looks like stacking up, and Athelric looks a touch of overs at around the $10 mark (at publish).
Larkspur Run was scratched from her race here at Rosehill last week, and given I was keen on her there, I’m happy to stick with the same form going into the Emancipation Stakes.
Larkspur Run is always good for a big performance or two each time she is in work, and she recorded a lovely Group 3 victory on Melbourne Cup Day last time.
She strips fitter for two starts back this time, including a credible second placing behind Hope In Your Heart in the Group 2 Guy Walter Stakes last time out.
She had a trial earlier this week and looks a winning chance at a price on Saturday ($14 at publish).
Some talented fillies will step out in this year’s Vinery Stud Stakes field and we’re set for a thrilling contest.
I’ve put Pavitra on top, but be sure to check out my full race preview and 2023 Vinery Stud Stakes Tips RIGHT HERE.
The second Group 1 of the day has attracted a typically strong field of stayers!
I’ve popped Irish raider Cleveland on top, but check out my full race preview and 2023 Tancred Stakes Tips RIGHT HERE.
Ballot-free entry into next week’s Doncaster Mile is on the line, and I’m going to have a couple of plays in the Doncaster Prelude.
Bandersnatch has seasoned into a very nice galloper, and he has returned two smart efforts this time, finishing just off the pace in both the Liverpool City Cup and the Ajax Stakes.
Fitter third-up, I think he can fight out the finish.
I’m also going to have an each way play on Welwal ($16 at publish).
Welwal returned an improved effort second-up in the Ajax Stakes, and he has been a horse that has typically improved with a couple of runs under the belt.
Will be backing both runners each way.
I’m more than happy to stick with Finepoint in the last.
Finepoint has been a great horse for the Waller yard for a couple of seasons now, and she returned with a nice effort to place in BM88 company here at Rosehill a fortnight ago.
She strips fitter, will like the small rise in trip, and she gets into this race well under the conditions.
As an emergency, we’re still sweating on a run, but if she does gain a start, I think she’ll be tough to beat.
