Two Group 1 feature races headline the ten-race program at Royal Randwick on 2023 Randwick Guineas Day.
Both the Randwick Guineas and the Canterbury Stakes have drawn talented fields, but there is something to like about all ten races on the program, and some terrific betting contests have materialised.
You can find all of my 2023 Randwick Guineas Day Tips below!
A wide open race to begin Randwick Guineas Day and at publish, we’re faced with around $6 the field.
Real Peace has been a consistent performer this time in, and I thought that he looked a touch of overs at around the $16 mark.
The Real Impact gelding was a dominant winner at Wyong back in January, and he followed up that effort a close second over this route two starts back.
Having also only just missed last time, he’s rock-hard fit, and we can have an each way play at the price.
Just five horses are engaged in the Todman Stakes and the undefeated Red Resistance has opened an odds-on favourite in betting.
Having beaten the likes of Steel City at Rosehill on debut, the son of Russian Revolution then comfortably won the Canonbury Stakes, but it was his recent Warwick Farm trial that was arguably his most impressive hit-out yet.
I can’t find a reason why he can’t win again and I am happy to dive in at the $1.90.
Only six fillies will step out in the Reisling Stakes, including early Golden Slipper favourite Learning To Fly.
Learning To Fly also puts an unbeaten record on the line, and she too has opened an odds-on favourite.
I think she wins, but the $1.70 is getting too short for me, and I am happy to watch.
Soulcombe didn’t live up to expectations when resuming, but I was always of the opinion that he was going to be substantially better for whatever he did do, and I think he’ll be too good in the Randwick City Stakes.
The Frankel gelding was good in the UK during the early stages of his career, and he arrive in Australia last spring for an utterly dominant win in the Group 3 Queen Elizabeth.
The mile here at Randwick when resuming was too short, but I like that he has been back to the trials since that run, while getting out to 2000m and the booking of James McDonald are huge ticks.
Some talented sprinters will take their respective places in the Fireball Stakes field, including Economics.
Economics has made just four appearances at the races since debuting, but he has enjoyed a fast rise to prominence, winning twice and finishing sixth in the Coolmore Stud Stakes.
His two trials in the lead up to this campaign have been excellent, and this looks the perfect campaign launchpad for him.
What an outstanding edition of the Challenge Stakes this is.
Just nine horses will take their places in the 1000m Group 2, but with names like Eduardo, Paulele and Giga Kick amongst them, it could prove to be the contest of the day.
With a case to be made for most, I think that Paulele looks the value at around the $5 mark in Challenge Stakes betting.
Paulele has been a consistent performer at the highest level of racing for a few preparations now, and he finally recorded his first Group 1 victory in Perth’s Winterbottom Stakes in December.
His fresh record is excellent, and he can pick up where he left off with a win.
The first of two Group 1 feature races in Sydney this weekend, and the Canterbury Stakes is always a fascinating contest.
I am very keen on Artorius, but be sure to check out my full race preview and complete 2023 Canterbury Stakes Tips RIGHT HERE.
As always, the Randwick Guineas has drawn some of the country’s best three-year-old gallopers, and we are set for another terrific race.
I’ve put Aft Cabin on top, but you can find my full preview and 2023 Randwick Guineas Tips RIGHT HERE.
Roots has opened a popular favourite in Aspiration Quality betting, and I agree with all of the early money.
The talented and consistent daughter of Press Statement made an impressive progression through the grades last time in, and I thought that she was good when third, beaten less than a length in Group 2 company first-up this time.
She did look a run shy in that race, and with natural improvement, I think that this is the perfect one for her.
Argentia is a dual acceptor in the Canterbury Stakes, but this does look the far better race for her, and I am hoping that Anthony & Sam Freedman do elect to go this way.
The Frankel mare has picked off some lovely races during her lightly raced career, adding the Group 3 Rising Fast to her CV in spring.
She was an impressive fifth behind the likes of Lofty Strike and Uncommon James in the Rubiton Stakes when resuming this time, and the form out of that race has obviously well and truly stood up.
With even luck, I think Argentia will take a power of beating in something like this.
