2023 Golden Slipper Day Tips & Preview

It’s the biggest day of the Sydney Autumn Carnival, and no fewer than five Group 1 races will be run and won at Rosehill Gardens on 2023 Golden Slipper Day!

I’ve previewed the lot, locked in my 2023 Golden Slipper Day Tips, and you can find them all below.

each way
Midway Handicap (1500m) – 12:10pm AEDT
No. 12 Pacific Warrior

An open race to begin Golden Slipper Day and there is a case to be made for a few of them, including Pacific Warrior.

Pacific Warrior returned some nice performances last time in, highlighted by a second-up win at Wyong, and I thought that there was plenty to like about his first-up effort this time, finishing just over a head second at Newcastle.

With improvement and from the good draw, I think that he can have an impact here, and the $14 about him at publish looks a touch of overs.

Group 3 NE Manion Cup (2400m) – 12:45pm AEDT
No. 1 Sir Lucan

The Sydney Cup is just around the corner, and if this edition of the NE Manion Cup is any indication, it’s going to be a ripper.

Sir Lucan was very impressive first-up from a spell, and I am confident that he can go on with the job on Saturday.

The Camelot gelding returned some bold efforts in some of the world’s best staying races earlier in his career, and finished midfield behind Verry Elleegant in the 2021 Melbourne Cup.

Having spent more than a year in the paddock, his effort and win in the Randwick City Stakes a fortnight ago was made even more impressive, and I’m confident that he will only improve for it.

Group 3 Epona Stakes (1900m) – 1:25pm AEDT
No. 7 Pink Ivory

Pink Ivory rarely returns a poor effort, and I think that the Epona Stakes is the absolute perfect race for her.

The Redwood mare raced consistently in good races throughout her 2022 campaign, but I thought that her fresh performance for second, beaten in a photo in the Aspiration Quality hinted at improvement.

She strips fitter, Brenton Avdulla rides from a good draw, and I think that the 1900m will be right up her alley.

Group 1 Rosehill Guineas (2000m) – 2pm AEDT
No. 5 Pericles

The first of five Group 1 races on 2023 Golden Slipper Day and in my opinion, probably the most clear-cut.

I think that Pericles will take a power of beating, but you can find my complete 2023 Rosehill Guineas Tips RIGHT HERE.

Listed Darby Munro Stakes (1200m) – 2:40pm AEDT
No. 5 Economics

Economics was good, despite clearly needing his first run back to tune up, and he can break back into the winner’s stall in the Darby Munro.

Economics stamped himself as one to watch during a short two-year-old season, but he returned a better horse in the spring last year and won the Heritage Stakes before finishing sixth in the Coolmore Stud Stakes.

I’m confident that any improvement sees him turn the tables of Dashing Legend and Kote, and the booking of James McDonald also adds confidence.

Group 1 Ranvet Stakes (2000m) – 3:15pm AEDT
No. 1 Gold Trip

The Ranvet Stakes has fast turned into one of the better Group 1 races of the autumn, now attracting talent from all corners of the globe.

I’ve put Melbourne Cup winner Gold Trip on top, but check out my full race preview and 2023 Ranvet Stakes Tips RIGHT HERE.

Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) – 4pm AEDT
No. 1 Anamoe

The Champion Anamoe goes around in the George Ryder Stakes on Saturday, is looking to record his third win from as many starts back this time.

I’ve put him on top of a strong first four, and you can find my complete 2023 George Ryder Stakes Tips RIGHT HERE.

each way
Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) – 4:45pm AEDT
No. 7 Shinzo

$5 million goes on the line in the world’s richest race for two-year-olds and typically, the 2023 Golden Slipper is wide open.

I’m siding with Shinzo, but make sure to check out my full race preview and 2023 Golden Slipper Tips RIGHT HERE.

Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m) – 5:20pm AEDT
No. 1 Eduardo

As it usually is, The Galaxy looks like being one of the most open Group 1 races of the season… certainly is the market is to be believed!

I think that Eduardo is just the class horse engaged, but you can find all of my 2023 The Galaxy Tips RIGHT HERE.

each way
Group 3 Birthday Card Stakes (1200m) – 5:55pm AEDT
No. 4 Larkspur Run

Larkspur Run has improved for two starts back from a spell and is over the odds in Birthday Card Stakes betting, in my opinion ($19 at publish).

The classy Godolphin mare is always good for a few sharp performances each prep, and she followed up an eye-catching effort in October’s Black Pearl Stakes with a lovely Group 3 win on Cup Day.

Despite having finished down the order in the Triscay Stakes first-up this time, she returned an improved effort to finish second behind Hope In Your Heart in the Guy Walter, and that horse has since finished fourth in a Group 1 race.

Fitter third-up, she just needs some luck from the draw, because she certainly has the class and ability to figure!
