2023 All-Star Mile Day Tips & Preview

The $5 million All-Star Mile headlines a stunning ten-race program at The Valley on Saturday!

With some of the country’s best horses, biggest stables and leading riders engaged, I’ve run the rule over the lot, and you can find my complete 2023 All-Star Mile Day Tips below.

VOBIS Gold Comet (1000m) – 12:25pm AEDT
No. 1 Midwest

Midwest has opened a firm favourite in Gold Comet betting, and understandably so.

The Team Freedman-trained galloper has returned to the races in typically smart form this time, and he has been knocking on the door of a win.

He steps out this week in peak order, is drawn ideally and loves The Valley.

Sharp Extensive IT Handicap (1200m) – 1:05pm AEDT
No. 4 Vongole

This isn’t the easiest race to decipher on All-Star Mile Day and at publish, we’re looked at $6.50 the field.

That being said, I thought it looked a nice one for Vongole.

Vongole has returned some lovely performances this time in, and he charged home to score over this route two back before finishing fourth in BM78 company last time.

He too steps out this week in peak order and is another who seems to like The Valley.

The Mystic Journey (2040m) – 1:40pm AEDT
No. 1 Charms Star

In my opinion, this looks a race in three between Charms Star, Summerbeel and Queen Air, and the former represents the best value.

Charms Star clearly needed her first run when debuting in Australia and finishing down the order at Flemington two back, but she only just missed in the Wangaratta Cup last time.

Fitter third-up and under Luke Nolen, she can fight out the finish, and we can have an each way play at around the $8 mark.

VOBIS Gold Reef (1600m) – 2:20pm AEDT
No. 1 Bel Air

Bel Air has been racing well around some talented gallopers recently, and this looks a nice feature for him.

The Written Tycoon gelding won at Pakenham last month, and was less than three lengths behind Elliptical in the CS Hayes two back, who himself is right in the market of a Group 1 race this weekend.

He was last seen filling the minors over 1400m, and he steps out this week in peak order.

The Mugatoo (1600m) – 2:55pm AEDT
No. 5 Munhamek

Munhamek was rewarded for his improving form with an eye-catching win at Flemington last time out, and The Mugatoo looks well within his means as well.

The Dark Angel gelding has continued to improve with each start this time in, and he filled the minors behind the in-form Scallopini at Listed level last month before delivering a smart field an easy defeat over the mile last time.

Importantly, he has performed well at The Valley previously, and he should be given every chance again this week under Craig Newitt and from barrier 3.

Listed Abell Stakes (1200m) – 3:40pm AEDT
No. 4 Mileva

Mileva finished down the order in the Oakleigh Plate first-up from a spell, but this is a big drop in class, and I am expecting plenty of improvement.

The Phillip Stokes-trained mare has picked off some nice races throughout her twenty career starts, and her form here at The Valley has been particularly good; a second placing behind Bella Nipotina in spring reads particularly well.

She has drawn ideally into this contest and looks a bit of value in betting.

The All-Star Mile (1600m) – 4:20pm AEDT
No. 2 Alligator Blood

$5 mullion goes on the line in The All-Star Mile, and another outstanding field has been taken.

I’ve put the Gator on top, but be sure to check out my full race preview and complete 2023 All-Star Mile Tips RIGHT HERE.

Group 3 Typhoon Tracy Stakes (1200m) – 5pm AEDT
No. 1 Paris Dior

I thought that Paris Dior was excellent first-up from a spell, and she can record a deserved black type victory in the Typhoon Tracy Stakes.

Paris Dior didn’t manage to strike in three spring starts, but she did race well around some talented horses, and she went to the paddock after finishing fourth in the Red Roses.

She was well beaten by Benedetta in the Inglis Sprint a fortnight ago, but she strips fitter for that hit-out, and this looks a far better race for her.

best bet
Group 2 Alister Clark Stakes (2040m) – 5:40pm AEDT
No. 3 Amenable

Amenable has returned two smart efforts since resuming and can return to winning form in the Alister Clark Stakes.

The Lonhro colt returned to action with a nice performance for second, beaten less than half a length in the Autumn Stakes at Sandown last month, and despite being cramped for space a vital moment in the Australian Guineas last time, he was still only a length and a half behind Legarto in fifth.

Fitter third-up, dropping in class and getting further out in trip, I think that this is his race to lose!

Ladbrokes Country Mile Series Final (1600m) – 6:10pm AEDT
No. 1 Khoekhoe

Khoekhoe returned to winning form for the first time in more than two years last time out, and I think that he’ll go on with the job in the last on All-Star Mile Day.

Having won The Showdown during his two-year-old season, Khoekhoe continued to perform well in good races throughout his three-year-old campaign, adding a Listed race to his CV, while also only just missing a couple of times in Group 2 company.

He finished midfield in BM70 company first up from a spell, but charged home at a huge price out at Ballarat last time to book his place in this field.

He boasts a class edge over a lot of these and has options from the rails draw.
