Group 1 racing doesn’t return to Adelaide for more than a month still, but the best day of South Australian racing has arrived!
2023 Adelaide Cup Day boasts an outstanding nine-race program, headlined by the time-honoured Group 2 staying test.
I’ve run the rule over each race, and you can find my complete 2023 Adelaide Cup Day Tips below!
Starts With Hello takes winning form into the first on Adelaide Cup Day and does look the one to beat again.
The Nicconi gelding has recorded two wins and a second placing from his five career starts, but there is no doubt that his most recent performance was the best to date.
He steps out this week in peak order and with even luck, I can’t find a reason why he won’t be in the finish.
There is a case to be made for a few of them in the market ahead of Race 2 on Adelaide Cup Day, but I thought that Killiako looked the value ($6 at publish).
Killiako hasn’t been seen at the races since November, but she didn’t miss placing in four starts last time in, winning on the Parks course here at Morphettville, while also ending her prep third in Listed company at Caulfield.
This is a drop in class from that race, while a recent trial win adds further confidence.
Bubble Over was a smart winner here when resuming, and I am confident that she will only be better second up at Morphettville on Monday.
The Jimmy Creed mare rarely returns a poor performance, and she completed an ideal return to the races when mustering a nice turn of foot to hit the line at Murray Bridge.
She will need some luck in running after drawing wide, but she should be given every chance by Jamie Kah.
There isn’t a lot of form to study ahead of the Cinderella Stakes, but Tiz Enuff’s debut performance was enough to give my confidence in her again.
The Rich Enuff filly was sent off a popular pick in betting at Sale and justified the attention, kicking clear to win by two lengths.
This is harder, but she harbours plenty of upside, and she does look up to the class.
My love for Dalasan remains as strong as ever, and I’m more than keen on him in the CS Hayes Memorial Cup, particularly at $7! (at publish).
The Dalakhani entire is one of, if not the most unlucky horse currently in work not to have recorded a Group 1 win.
That being said, he has still picked off plenty of nice races along the way, and amassed more than $3.5 million in prize money.
He clearly needed his first run back this time when finishing down the order at Flemington, but this is a far weaker race, and the mile is perfect.
Owing to the fact that I just think that he is the best horse in the race, I am going to stick with Kemalpasa in the Matrice Stakes.
Kemalpasa hasn’t recorded a race win for more than a year, but he has continued to race consistently, and he returned with a nice effort for third in the Durbridge Stakes here in January.
Despite having finished down the order in the Rubiton Stakes last time, I like that he has been freshened since then, and this is obviously a big drop in class.
The Adelaide Cup is always an outstanding staying contest, and there won’t be any exceptions to that rule on Monday!
I’ve put Persan on top, but check out my complete race preview and 2023 Adelaide Cup Tips RIGHT HERE.
Stonecoat can win the Morphettville Guineas and truly announce himself to the greater Australian racing community.
The Pierro gelding has recorded two wins and three minors from his six career starts to date, and he has continued to improve with each, and as the bar has been raised.
I thought he was good in BM64 company at Gosford last time out, and while this is another rise in class, he has plenty of upside.
Some talented gallopers will step out in the last on Adelaide Cup Day, including Siyata.
Siyata returned a winner in her first start for Will Clarken & Niki O’Shea at Murray Bridge last month, before finishing midfield over this route last time.
She has been freshened and sent back to the trials since that effort, and I think that will prove the difference on Monday. At around the $7 mark (at publish), we can have an each way play.
