Why You Should Support the Eagles in Super Bowl LVII

Why You Should Support the Eagles in Super Bowl LVII

They’re back! After an up and down five seasons following their win in Super Bowl LII, the Philadelphia Eagles are once again competing for the biggest prize in American sport.

With plenty of Aussies set to tune in for their one live NFL game of the year on Monday morning, this week will likely involve deciding on which team to barrack for on the day.

For the next few minutes, or however long it takes you to read this blog post, we’re going to lay out a few reasons why you should don whatever Kelly Green gear is in your wardrobe and learn the words to “Fly, Eagles, Fly!” before kickoff.

It’s Something Different

We get it, the Chiefs are really, really good, but isn’t it getting a bit boring seeing them at this time of year?

That’s all we keep hearing whenever a team wins too much, it’s too predictable, mundane and not exciting enough.

Well allow the Eagles to flip the script and give the NFL world a surprise Super Bowl champion.

They were given an outside chance to go on a run in preseason but few expected them to be this good.

Now everyone knows just how good this team can be and what better way to show it than by belting the perennial contenders around State Farm Stadium for a few hours.

They definitely have something to prove.

Jalen Hurts Finishes His Story

If you’re a fan of the college game, you’ll know all about the story of Jalen Hurts.

He started off with the powerhouse school Alabama and took over the starting job in his second game.

Throughout his first year, he set all sorts of records and guided the Crimson Tide to the National Championship Game, where they lost to Clemson in a classic.

In the following season he took them back to the title game, but was benched for freshman Tua Tagovailoa and was relegated to the backup role for the following year.

Ahead of the 2019 season Hurts transferred to Oklahoma, knowing he needed to play to help his draft stock and produced career highs in passing yards, passing touchdowns and all rushing categories.

It lead to him being drafted by the Eagles, however his rookie season was primarily spent on the bench and when he was in the game, he did not clearly earn the starting job despite some flashes.

However Nick Sirianni’s arrival brought about significant growth in Hurts and the 24-year-old has taken the reigns in the last two seasons and showed us just what he is capable of.

For a guy who has actually battled professional adversity in college and the pros, it would be a great ending to the story to see him crowned a champion on Monday.

Nick Sirianni’s Facial Expressions

The 41 year old is in his second year in charge of the Eagles and came into this season on the back of a solid, if unspectacular first round playoff exit in his debut campaign.

It wasn’t a great first impression if we’re being honest, plenty of people thought he would be done after his first year.

However he has been feeling pretty good about himself this season as he guides the Eagles to the title game and he’s not afraid to show some life on the sideline.

Especially when there’s a camera nearby.

Jordan Mailata

In case you haven’t followed the Australian coverage of Super Bowl LVII so far, about 90% of it has focused on former rugby league player Jordan Mailata.

Offensive tackle isn’t a glamourous position but the former NRL junior, who was rejected from that code for being “too big” took a chance on an NFL career and boy did it pay off!

He’s now protecting the blindside of their franchise quarterback, with a rich contract of his own to go with it and will now try and become the first Australian to win a Super Bowl since Jesse Williams was on injured reserve with the Seattle Seahawks in February 2014.

If you find someone who would be excited to take this guy on, it’s entirely possible that person is full of it.

The Fans Know How to Celebrate

Buffalo might have the most famous fan base when it comes to going wild, but the Eagles fans celebrations are right up there.

This is after they made Super Bowl LII, not won it, that was still two weeks away…

No idea how they are planning to reinforce the bus stops next week though…

Actually, these fans are going to go off win or lose but the win is going to be a lot funnier.

Some of Your Favourite Shows Involve Philadelphia

Remember Jim Halpert, the loveable prankster from The Office?

Eagles fan.

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia involved life in… you guessed it, Philadelphia.

Even The Fresh Prince of Bel Air featured Will Smith, where the actor and character he played of the same name were Eagles fans.

Jackson Mahomes

Normally we try and stay positive and find reasons to back the team, however in this guy’s case, we’ll make an exemption and give you a reason to hope Kansas City loses.

The significantly less talented Mahomes brother has made a career of being in the vicinity of his sibling and trying to get famous for simply breathing.

What has he done to earn this level of scorn you ask? The shortlist of transgressions including a Tik Tok Dance on a logo for a deceased former player Sean Taylor, pouring water over opposing fans after a Chiefs loss from his brother’s luxury box and expecting preferential treatment from local restaurants.

Just about every famous athlete comes with annoying hangers on, kind of like Turtle and Johnny Drama in Entourage just without the likeability, career aspirations of discernible skills but Jackson Mahomes takes it to a whole other level.

Lets all hope we don’t have to see this guy with his phone out on the field in Glendale on Monday.

There is Some Staying Power With This Roster

Now back to the Eagles and their roster.

Some teams opt to go all in on a single Super Bowl run, but this Eagles team is built for long term success.

If you haven’t settled on an NFL team for the long haul just yet, you could do a lot worse than backing the Eagles.

With the young talent including Hurts, A.J. Brown and Devonta Smith, this is a team that could be competitive for the next five plus seasons if they can stay healthy.
