A-League Round 11 Tips & Preview

A-League Round 11 Tips & Preview

It’s another seven match round of A-League action with Brisbane and Perth backing up for a midweek encounter.

Before that though, we have a full weekend of fascinating clashes, with the headline clash of the round coming from Gosford between Adelaide and Central Coast.

We’ve got you covered for your A-League Tips and match previews below!

Melbourne Victory v Brisbane Roar
Draw @ $3.40

In what will surely be a surreal atmosphere at AAMI Park, the Victory will play their first home match since the Derby pitch invasion last December.

Having lost both matches since then, the pressure is on the side many expected to be title contenders to right the ship and start picking up points once again.

Brisbane has proven themselves to be a tough opponent every week even if the goals are not flowing for Warren Moon’s side.

Thanks to the league’s best defence, they have gone seven matches without defeat and while that will be seen as a positive, the five draws in that run will stop them getting too far ahead of themselves.

When these sides met in Queensland in October, they played out a 0-0 draw with Roar goalkeeper Jordan Holmes sent off, and a similarly fiery affair looks to be on the cards here.

Neither side can afford a loss here, but it’s tough to back them with enough confidence so the draw is the way to go.

Perth Glory v Western Sydney Wanderers
Western Sydney to Win @ $2.10

Western Sydney will be buzzing after their demolition of Macarthur last weekend in what was their best performance of the Marko Rudan era.

The trip to Perth will provide a stern test for their ability to back it up, with a stubborn Glory side awaiting them at the end of the long flight.

Perth has taken four points from two matches at Macedonia Park as they try to establish some sort of home ground advantage in their temporary surrounds.

However it was hard not to be impressed by the Wanderers performance last week and at their current price, the value on the visitors is the way to go.

Central Coast Mariners v Adelaide United
Both Teams to Score and Over 2.5 Goals @ $1.80

This has the potential to be the runaway match of the weekend with two of the A-League’s most exciting clubs facing off in Gosford.

There’s no shortage of big name talent with Jason Cummings and Craig Goodwin facing off for the first time since they were teammates for Australia at the World Cup just over a month ago.

With a strong case to be made for both sides winning the match, it’s probably worth steering clear of the match result market.

Instead, the play for this game is to back both teams to score and overs in the doubles market.

If both teams are on their game we should see a classic contest.

Sydney FC v Wellington Phoenix
SGM: Sydney FC to Win and Both Teams to Score @ $3.26

It was a much needed win for Sydney FC last week as Adam Le Fondre got things going for the Sky Blues.

However that joy will be very short lived if they can’t find a way to back it up against a Wellington side that has proven to be a tricky opponent on their day.

While the Nix have only won twice this season, they has been no shortage of goals in their matches, with Both Teams to Score hitting in every one to date.

However it’s tough to back against Sydney here, with the win over Newcastle producing a far from perfect performance but they do look like they are trending in the right direction.

Melbourne City v Western United
Melbourne City to Win and Over 2.5 Goals @ $2.20

It’s the second meeting of the season of the 2022 Grand Finalists and current pacesetters Melbourne City will be eager to replicate their Round 1 victory.

Western United is trending upwards after picking up seven points from their last three matches and their previously leaky defence is starting to shore itself up.

However City is a whole other task for John Aloisi to deal with and the reigning premiers are one of the few consistent sides in the competition.

Look for City to dictate the play and utilise their Socceroos attackers to get the better of Western United just like they did in Round 1.

Macarthur FC v Newcastle Jets
Draw @ $3.40

Neither side will have been overly please with their showing in Round 10 with Macarthur getting belted by Western Sydney while Newcastle were outclassed by Sydney.

The motivation to bounce back will be strong on both sides but it is tough to have a whole lot of faith in either team with their respective struggles for consistency.

It’s a big task to split these teams and it’s one I’m not going to take on, look for the spoils to be shared.

Perth Glory v Brisbane Roar
Brisbane to Win @ $2.45

Round 6 will be completed (a few weeks late) on Tuesday night when the Roar travels to Perth for this rescheduled fixture.

Both sides are coming off impressive 1-0 wins on Friday with the Roar getting the better of the Victory in Melbourne while Perth held serve at home against Western Sydney.

While the early signs are good for Perth’s home ground advantage, there is still a sense of trepidation surrounding their consistency.

Brisbane on the other hand look like a team that has discovered their identity and are happy to play into it.

That may not produce the most aesthetically pleasing performances and leave them with a narrow margin for error, they are good enough to come away with all three points and move into the top four.
