It simply does not get any bigger than this. The Phoenix is the world’s richest greyhound race, and the nation’s focus will be on The Meadows on Saturday night!
The $1 million-to-the-winner slot race has understandably drawn some of the best chasers in Australasia, and there is a case to be made for literally very chaser in The Phoenix field.
I’ve run the rule over all eight starts and two emergencies, and you can find my 2022 The Phoenix Tips below.
Suggested Bets
- 3 Units E/W #5 Zippy Tesla
- Boxed Trifecta of the selections below
Going for a bit of value here, and I think that Zippy Tesla rates as a key winning chance at around the $12 mark (at publish).
Zippy Tesla came into the Neds slot following the unfortunate scratching of Plaintiff, and he has returned some typically stunning performances recently, including an eye-catching win over this route last week.
He is as tough as they come, and we can have an each way play at the price.
Amron Boy is the early favourite in The Phoenix betting and understandably so, because he is in career-best form.
The son of Zambora Brockie has amassed an impressive career record of fourteen wins and nine placings from his thirty-two starts, and he recorded a deserved Group 1 win here at The Meadows last week.
He too will just need some luck in running from the central box, but there’s no doubt that he’ll take a power of beating.
The inaugural The Phoenix winner, Wow She’s Fast has continued to return big performances this time, and she can fight out the finish of Saturday’s feature.
The daughter of My Bro Fabio picked off a Group 1 race over this route back in July, and she was last seen breaking the clock over 515m at Sandown Park, beating home Amron Boy in the process.
She has the chance to create history this week and I for one would not be surprised to see her pull it off.
I’m confident that Paddy Wants Pats will go straight to the lead from Box 2 in The Phoenix, and he’ll be in it for a long way.
The talented son of Black Magic Opal was checked out of his Group 1 race at Sandown Park after missing the jump last time out, but his form prior to that was excellent, an included a pair of eye-catching wins.
He will need to step well, but he is offered every chance to secure his ideal run in The Phoenix and he is always difficult to reel in.
