It’s an Australian sporting institution, and a 114-strong fleet will cast off from Sydney Harbour on Boxing Day for the 2022 Sydney To Hobart Yacht Race!
Four Maxis will fight it out for this year’s line honours and three-time winner Andoo Comanche has opened our clear $2.10 favourite from reigning champion Black Jack ($4), Hamilton Island Wild Oats ($5) and Lawconnect ($6).
I’ve run the rule over a few key entries, and you can find my Sydney to Hobart Line Honours Tips and Tattersall’s Cup Tips (Handicap) below.
Line Honours
Andoo Comanche ($2.10)
Always a threat for Line Honours, Andoo Comanche looks as though she’ll be ideally suited to the weather conditions in the 2022 Sydney To Hobart.
John Winning Jnr and his crew have already enjoyed a glittering year, winning the Sydney To Gold Coast Race as well as the inaugural Tollgate Islands Race.
This will be her first appearance in the famous race since claiming line honours back in 2019, but with the four Maxis expected to be sailing downwind in the same weather pattern the entire way, Andoo Comanche is clear the one to beat.
Black Jack ($4)
She was a popular winner of the 2021 Sydney To Hobart, and Black Jack has attracted plenty of support in 2022 Sydney To Hobart betting as a result.
After recording her second win in this race and first under her current moniker in 2021, Black Jack progressed to Line, Record and Overall wins in the Pittwater To Coffs Harbour Yacht Race, and broke her own record in Queensland’s major contest, the Brisbane To Gladstone.
Another recent win in the time-honoured Bird Island Race has her and her crew nicely tuned up, and she is a great chance of going back-to-back in the Sydney To Hobart.
Hamilton Island Wild Oats ($5)
The world-renowned Wild Oats XI makes her eagerly awaited return to the Sydney To Hobart fleet in 2022, and under a new name!
Mark Richards is still at the helm, and while the team haven’t raced as many times as a couple of their fancied rivals this season, they’ve tuned up nicely with a recent third behind Andoo Comanche and Black Jack in the Sydney Gold Coast Race.
The experience and success boasted by this yacht and crew is second to none, and she does look the value in Sydney To Hobart betting (line honours) in my opinion.
Lawconnect ($6)
The final Maxi in this year’s Sydney To Hobart fleet is LawConnect.
While more often than not, she is a little outdone by her key rivals, LawConnect is almost always ‘thereabouts’ when the fleet arrives in the Derwent, but she really will need everything to go right (and probably a bit of bad luck to the other Maxis) to win.
Enigmatic owner/skipper Christian Beck continues his tradition of bringing a few company employees along for the ride, and she’ll be in the lead pack leaving the heads.
Tattersall’s Cup (Handicap)
The Tattersall’s Cup is awarded to the overall winner of the Sydney To Hobart, and was claimed by Ichi Ban for the third time in 2021.
Markets are yet to be released for this year’s race, and this section will be updated with tips when they are.
