The UFC heads back to Las Vegas and the empty Apex this weekend with a mouth watering Heavyweight contender fight!
Our full UFC Fight Night: Lewis vs Spivak Tips & Preview can be found below.
Derrick Lewis is a fan favourite and one of the greatest heavyweight’s that the UFC has ever had fight in the organisation.
The now 37 year old holds the record for most knockouts in UFC history with 21 of his 26 career victories coming by separating his opponent from their consciousness.
Having fought for the interim Heavyweight title in August 2021 in front of his home crowd, a fight which he lost, Lewis has since gone 1-2.
This includes a KO loss to Tai Tuivasa earlier this year and another TKO loss to Sergei Pavlovich in July, again in Texas.
Sergey Spivak is really well rounded for a heavyweight and he has won five of his last six, the only loss coming to Tom Aspinall.
Six of his career wins have been via submission and this includes an arm and triangle choke of Tai Tuivasa way back in October 2019.
He poses many threats to Derrick Lewis but he has never faced such a dangerous man and at the price, I’m happy to side with Lewis.
Ion Cutelaba’s record does not look pretty with 16 wins and 8 losses to his name and he has just one win in his last six fights.
But let’s take a look at who he has fought.
Jared Cannonier, Glover Teixeira, Magomed Ankalaev X2, Ryan Spann and Johnny Walker.
That’s some list.
Kennedy Nzechukwu gets his opportunity to snag a win against a high level guy in this match up.
He bounced back from back to back losses with a TKO win over Karl Roberson in July and he’ll be keen to grab this chance.
He has a huge reach and uses his elbows well in tight and while there is a clear pathway to a points victory, I think the value play here at the price is Ion Cutelaba.
Aussie Jack Della is undefeated in his last 12 professional fights including his last two inside the UFC by first round TKO.
The former Eternal MMA fighter has struggled to find a willing participant due to his dominance in the octagon but he has found one in the shape Englishman Danny Roberts.
35 year old Roberts has won two of his last five inside the UFC and an overall record of 7:5 inside the biggest promotion in the sport since 2015.
It’s tough to see Della losing this one and with an early finish we may just see him book his spot at UFC 284 in Perth.
