The action returns to Caulfield on Saturday for 2022 Zipping Classic Day!
I’ve run the rule over every galloper engaged in all nine races, and you can find my complete 2022 Zipping Classic Day Tips below.
Cylinder was excellent on debut and looks the one to beat in the Merson Cooper Stakes.
The Exceed And Excel colt showed promise at the trials prior to debuting and charged home to only just miss in the Max Lees Classic at Newcastle.
With improvement for that experience, I can’t find a reason why he won’t be in the finish.
I’m intrigued to see Gin Martini out to two miles for the first time in Saturday’s Neds Sandown Cup, and under Craig Williams, she’s the one for me.
Gin Martini has been a great horse for the John Sargent yard this year, and returned arguably her best performance to place in the ATC Oaks.
She has improved with each of her four starts back this time, culminating in a credible third behind King Frankel at Newcastle last time out.
She’s rock-hard fit and looks as though she’ll stay all day.
This is a far more appropriate race for General Beau, and I think that he’ll take a power of beating.
General Beau picked off some lovely races since making his debut, and he returned with a promising performance to finish fourth, beaten just over two lengths in the Schillaci Stakes.
He finished down the order in the Group 3 Rising Fast on Derby Day by fitter third-up and back to a course with a bend, I think that these are his areas.
Get Up Girl looks to be an above average galloper, and she claim her first bit of black type in this year’s Twilight Glow Stakes.
The No Nay Never filly stamped herself as one to watch by winning on debut at Mornington, and she kept her best work for late when third in the Listed Amanda Elliot on Stakes Day.
Fitter third-up, she just needs some luck in running from the wide draw!
Betting suggests that the Kevin Heffernan Stakes is a race in two between Literary Magnate and Norwegian Bliss, and I am backing the former to end the unbeaten run of the latter.
Literary Magnate has been an excellent horse for the Matty Williams yard since making her debut, and she returned with an excellent performance to win in Group 3 company here at Caulfield last month.
She was only just denied by Larkspur Run in the Hong Kong Jockey Club Stakes on Cup Day, and she strikes this race at peak fitness and ready to win again.
Grandslam can return to winning form in the Eclipse Stakes.
The full brother to Jameka hasn’t hit the same heights as his sister, but Grandslam has returned plenty of outstanding performances throughout his career, and he has been a great horse for the Maher & Eustace yard.
I thought he was good when third, beaten just over a length in a lucrative VOBIS race last month, and I like that he has been kept fresh for this.
Luncies is the one for me in this year’s Zipping Classic.
The Kris Lees-trained stayer is yet to strike in four starts back this time, but he has been knocking on the door of a win throughout his campaign, finishing second in both the Cameron Handicap and the Queen Elizabeth Stakes most notably, but his best effort was arguably his sixth placing in the Turnbull.
He steps out this week in peak order, he gets into this race well under the conditions and he’s drawn to receive every chance from barrier 4.
The Neds Sandown Guineas looks to have several key winning chances engaged, and I think that a horse like Kings Consort is over the odds ($16 at publish).
The Ilovethiscity gelding has improved for three starts back this time and kept his best work for late into third in the VOBIS Eureka Stockade last week.
I thought that was the run of a horse looking for a mile and he gets that this week. We can have an each way play at the price.
Roots has returned to the races in excellent form this time and looms as the one to beat in the Summoned Stakes.
The Press Statement mare was good during her three-year-old season and warranted a crack in Group 1 company in South Australia, albeit a failed tilt.
There is no doubt that she has gone to another level this time, however, and winning two of three starts, including the Inglis Bracelet on Oaks Day.
This looks an ideal feature race for her, and I am confident that she can send us home a winner.
