2022 Mooloolaba Cup Day Tips & Preview

2022 Mooloolaba Cup Day Tips & Preview

Feature racing in QLD heads north to the Sunshine Coast  this Saturday afternoon with a quality card of racing to look forward to.

Our full 2022 Mooloolaba Cup Day Tips & Preview can be found below.

Race 1: 2YO Handicap (1200m) 12:03pm
No. 1 Boomster

Boomster was placed on debut at Doomben over 1100m on a heavy track but he did finish nine lengths off the winner Miss Coota.

He followed that effort in a similar grade of race back on top of the ground last start when he was beaten less than half a length at the same track and distance as his debut.

The son of Spirit Of Boom should find this a bit easier and the apprentice will give some weight relief.

Race 2: Benchmark 78 Handicap (2200m) 12:38pm
No. 6 A Deel Of Humour

This is a very open staying contest and I wouldn’t be surprised if there the winner paid double figures.

A Deel Of Humour has won three of his four starts so far this prep including a benchmark 65 at this track and distance last time out.

She drops half a kilo on that last win and although she will need to take another step forward, she is well over the odds at $41.

Race 3: 3YO Handicap (1600m) 1:13pm
No. 2 Soothsayer

Soothsayer is a talented young horse who has done the majority of his racing in town.

He won a 3YO Handicap race at Eagle Farm three starts back and finished second in a similar race last time out as well.

The step up to 1600m suits at this stage of his prep and he is clearly the horse to beat in my opinion.

Race 4: Class 3 Handicap (1800m) 1:48pm
No. 15 Milka

The Australian Bloodstock owned Milka broke through for a much deserved win on the Gold Coast last time out and although she was only a narrow winner, they beat home the third horse by a further 3.5 lengths.

She has finished in the top four in four of her five starts this prep and she will be required to carry just 52.5kg in this contest.

Race 5: 3YO Handicap (1000m) 2:28pm
No. 6 Golden Boom

The win by Golden Boom on debut here at the Sunshine Coast two weeks ago was one of the most dominant wins I’ve seen from a maiden horse for some time.

The three year old gelding won by over six lengths on that day but it was the way in which he won, eased down and barely out of second gear, which was most impressive.

He is a horse with enormous ability and although this is a considerable step up in grade, he will again prove too strong with natural improvement.

Race 6: Benchmark 85 Handicap (1400m) 3:08pm
No. 5 Ucalledit

Five year old gelding Ucalledit has been a consistent performer over his career having placed in 10 of his 16 starts.

He kick started this campaign with a narrow win on the Gold Coast and was beaten just half a length in a Class 6 at Doomben last time out.

Four of his five career wins have been at 1400m and he is the horse to beat in my opinion.

Race 7: Swiss Ace Plate (1000m) 3:48pm
No. 1 Simply Fly

Simply Fly was competitive in black type races throughout his last campaign which he closed out with a 1.5 length win in the Listed Chief De Beers at Doomben.

He opened this prep with a narrow win at Eagle Farm but they beat home the third horse by a further 2.5 lengths and he should be fitter for that run now.

The five year old has missed a place just twice from 10 career starts at 1000m and is undefeated from three runs here at the Sunshine Coast.

Race 8: Mooloolaba Cup (1600m) 4:28pm
No. 10 Linthorpe Lad

Five year old gelding Linthorpe Lad is racing particularly well this prep and he comes into the Mooloolaba Cup on the back of two wins in a row including a dominant 3.25 length win at Doomben over 1640m.

He’s placed in all four runs so far this campaign and will be nearing peak fitness now and he will be required to carry just 54.5kg.

Race 9: Class 6 Plate (1200m) 5:12pm
Boxed Trifecta 6/7/8/12

Let’s see if we can finish the day with a winning trifecta!
