2022 Country Finals Raceday Tips & Preview

Black type racing continues at Doomben Racecourse on Country Finals Raceday!

The George Moore Stakes and Mode Plate have each attracted classy fields, but there are nine winners to be found in total, and you can find all of my Country Finals Raceday Tips below.

Zousain First Yearlings Selling 2023 2YO Handicap (1200m) – 1:03pm AEDT
No Bet

Skirt The Law has opened a clear odds-on favourite in the first at Doomben on Saturday following an impressive debut win.

I think she probably will win again, but the $1.40 is far too short for me, and I am happy to stay out.

R&W Ascot Eagle Way (2000m) – 1:38pm AEDT
No. 1 Kovalica

Kovalica is a dual acceptor in Sydney, but this looks the softer option, and I think this will be the way that trainer Chris Waller elects to go.

Kovalica raced greenly on debut at Newcastle but did hit the line well for fourth, and he broke his maiden second-up with ease at Wyong.

He steps out this week fourth-up and following another smart win at Warwick Farm, and this looks a great opportunity for him to transition into Saturday metro company.

XXXX Country Stampede Final (1110m) – 2:14pm AEDT
No. 2 Dare To Share

Dare To Share is chasing a hat-trick when he takes his place in the Country Stampede Final, and he is the one that I want to be with.

The Dream Ahead entire finished down the order in a BM78 race at Eagle Farm when returning from a short break, but he has since proven too good in races at Chinchilla and Gympie, both good form references for this contest.

He looks to be in peak order and with even luck from the draw, I think he’ll prove tough to beat.

best bet
Laraine Blades 75th Celebration Open Quality Handicap (2000m) – 2:48pm AEDT
No. 4 Aussie Nugget

The consistent Aussie Nugget will go around in Race 4 at Doomben on Saturday and looks tough to beat.

The former Victoria has hit the ground running since transferring to the care of Tony Gollan, and has hasn’t missed placing at his last five trips to the races, winning over a mile here at Doomben most notably.

He’s rock-hard fit, drawn and weighted well, and he is my best bet on the program.

Country Cups Challenge Final (1600m) – 3:28pm AEDT
No. 11 Vinasta

There is a case to be made for many of them in the Country Cups Challenge Final, but Vinasta is going to be the one for me.

Barring one race this time in, Vinasta has been a strong and consistent performer, missing a place once in her last eight starts and finding form around some decent country types.

She was freshened before finishing third in a BM70 race at Toowoomba a couple of weeks ago, and she should be absolutely cherry ripe for this feature.

Aquis Stallions Pierata Plate (1200m) – 4:08pm AEDT
No. 1 Spiritualised

Spiritualised hasn’t been seen at the races since August, but he is the class horses engaged in this field and can make a winning return.

The Spirit Of Boom colt has recorded three wins from his six career starts, finishing second on the other three occasions and finding form around some talented gallopers.

He went to the paddock after recording a near four-length victory over 1200m at Eagle Farm, and his recent trial here at Doomben was excellent.

Merlo Coffee Class 6 Plate (1350m) – 4:48pm AEDT
No. 12 Alburq

Alburq is another galloper that is chasing a hat-trick at Doomben on Saturday, and I can’t find a reason why he can’t pull it off.

The Rubick gelding flashed late to finish second behind Extremist at Eagle Farm first-up and hasn’t looked back, recording easy triumphs at his two subsequent appearances.

The wide draw is a slight knock, but he steps out in peak order and will carry only 54.5kgs.

Group 3 George Moore Stakes (1200m) – 5:28pm AEDT
No. 1 Garibaldi

The George Moore Stakes looks the perfect feature race for the talented galloper Garibaldi.

Garibaldi has been his usual, consistent self this year, and won a Listed race on the Gold Coast back in August before filling the minors in the Weetwood.

I thought that there was plenty to like about his fresh run for second behind Holyfield in the Keith Noud Quality last month, and his is a multiple winner at this point of his preparation.

Listed Mode Stakes (1200m) – 6:13pm AEDT
No. 1 Exo Lady

It looked to me as though Exo Lady just didn’t really enjoy the straight at Flemington last time out, and I am keen to see her back in Brisbane on Saturday.

The Exosphere filly stamped herself as one to watch during her two-year-old campaign earlier this year, and she returned with a decent effort to finish third, beaten half a length at Eagle Farm.

Jockey Jim retains the ride and third-up, I think that the $8 about Exo Lady at publish is over the odds.
