The Grand Final races of the Melbourne Spring Carnival are just around the corner, and the action continues to HQ this weekend in Turnbull Stakes Day!
Nine races are on the program, and I am confident in having unearthed a few winners below in my 2022 Turnbull Stakes Day Tips!
The new crop of juveniles has arrived, and we’ll get out first look at some of them in Saturday’s Maribyrnong Trial Stakes!
Given that they are all debutants, I can’t find anything that I am confident in, and I am happy to watch with a view towards something later in the season.
Poland is far better than his fresh effort suggested, and I am keen to give him another chance at a price in the Paris Lane Stakes ($23 at publish).
The Mike Moroney-trained galloper has picked off some nice races throughout his career, but it has been a little while since he tasted success.
With improvement and luck, I think he can be competitive.
This is a good edition of the Edward Manifold Stakes and there is case to be made for a few of them, including Do It La.
Do It La stamped herself as one to watching during a competitive debut prep, and while she needed her first back this time to tune up, she was excellent in BM70 company at the midweeks most recently.
She has plenty of upside and we can have an each-way play at around the $10 mark.
Argentia will finally make her eagerly awaited return in the Rose Of Kingston Stakes, and it looks the perfect launchpad for her.
The Frankel mare has recorded two wins and as many second placings from her six career starts to date; both victories coming at this point of her preparation.
She’s drawn ideally under Damien Oliver and will take plenty of beating.
I am a huge fan of Giga Kick, and I think he’ll take a power of beating in the Danehill Stakes.
The classy son of Scissor Kick has recorded three wins from as many starts, each more impressive than its predecessor, and he was last seen winning the Group 3 Vain Stakes.
He’s six weeks between starts, but clearly races well fresh, and he is proven down the Flemington straight.
One of these stayers will gain ballot-free entry into the 2022 Melbourne Cup field, and not that he needs it, but I think it will be Vow And Declare.
The 2020 Melbourne Cup winner hasn’t recorded another race win since tasting success on that first Tuesday of November, but he really does look to have found good form again this time, and he kept on coming into third at this track and trip last time.
Fitter third-up, he’s another whom we can have something on each-way.
The Turnbull Stakes has drawn a typically strong field of middle-distance gallopers, and it shapes as a terrific betting race.
I’ve put Young Werther on top, but check out my full race preview and complete 2022 Turnbull Stakes Tips RIGHT HERE.
An interesting edition of the Gilgai Stakes with a few key winning chances, but I am going to stick with the early favourite, Swats That.
Swats That has raced well in some of Australia’s best sprints throughout her career, and she has been moved to the care of the Maher & Eustace stable this time.
I thought that her resuming effort for third, beaten less than a length in the Bobbie Lewis here at Flemington was full of merit, and she is a winner at this point of her preparation previously.
Last-start winner Artzino can continue his rise through the grades by winning the Super Impose on Turnbull Stakes Day.
The Tarzino gelding has only made two appearances at the races so far, but he only just missed on debut at Pakenham before breaking his maiden at Sandown last time.
Fitter third-up and under D. Oliver, this looks a great opportunity for him to transition into black type company.
