2022 Golden Rose Tips

The Golden Rose is one of the best races contest during the Sydney spring every year, and we will be treated to a particularly exciting edition of the Group 1 feature at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday.

James Cummings has prepared two previous winners of this race, and the Godolphin trainer will saddle In Secret and Golden Mile this year, the occupants of the top two lines of 2022 Golden Rose betting.

I’ve run the rule over every galloper in the field, and you can find my complete 2022 Golden Rose Tips below.

Suggested Bets

  • 3 Units E/W #3 Jacquinot
  • Boxed Trifecta of the selections below
Golden Rose - Winner
No. 3 Jacquinot

Despite all the early support for the top two picks in the Golden Rose betting, I’m holding form with my early pick, Jacquinot.

Jacquinot stamped himself as one to watch during a brief but memorable two-year-old prep, filling the minors in the Neds Blue Diamond and finishing a credible sixth in the Golden Slipper most notably.

His first-up effort and win in the McNeil Stakes was excellent, and it was made to look even more incredible when Aft Cabin, the second placegetter, absolutely smoked his rivals in the Neds Caulfield Guineas Prelude last week.

Jacquinot is drawn ideally under Damian Lane and the $8.50 about his at publish is over the odds.

Golden Rose - 2nd
No. 16 In Secret

In Secret is yet to return a poor effort and she is a fitting 2022 Golden Rose Stakes betting favourite.

The I Am Invincible filly win each of her first two career starts as a two-year-old, including a Listed race, and she returned for a credible second behind Zougotcha in the Silver Shadow Stakes.

She followed up that run with another bullish win in the Run To The Rose a fortnight ago, and takes her place in this contest rock-hard fit, and further boosted by the booking of James McDonald.

The only query I have is fillies’ poor recent record in the Golden Rose, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see In Secret buck that trend.

Golden Rose - 3rd
No. 7 Golden Mile

Golden Mile is also clearly a very good galloper, and the only queries I have over him is the small drop in trip (1500m to 1400m), and the potentially sticky draw (barrier 11).

Golden Mile has made just three appearances at the races so far, but kept his best work for late when second behind Kibou in the Up & Coming first-up from a spell, before recording his first career black type victory in the Ming Dynasty Quality.

Fitter third-up, he too should be there or thereabouts!

Golden Rose - 4th
No. 11 Fast Witness

Fast Witness brings a different Victorian form line into the Golden Rose and he’s another whom I consider to be over the odds at his current price ($26 at publish).

The Star Witness colt has recorded two wins and as many second placings from his four career starts to date, winning the McKenzie Stakes at The Valley most notably before just missing behind the talented Berkeley Square last time out.

He steps out this week in peak order and as long as he handles the New South Wales way of going, I’m confident he can run a cheeky race.
