Ten talented milers will step out in the Group 1 George Main Stakes at Royal Randwick on Saturday afternoon.
There are plenty of previous winners at the highest level engaged but perhaps unsurprisingly, Cox Plate favourite Anamoe has opened our favourite in 2022 George Main Stakes betting, and he has only firmed since Zaaki was scratched.

Suggested Bets
- 7 Units straight out #3 Anamoe
- Boxed Trifecta of the selections below
He’s always been one of mine and he’s rarely let me down, so of course I’ve put Anamoe on top of my George Main Stakes tips.
The Street Boss entire is now a four-time Group 1 winner, having picked off a race at the highest level in each of his four campaigns since debuting.
His first-up effort in the Winx Stakes here suggested that he is only a better horse this time, and I simply think that he will prove too good again on Saturday.
I actually wouldn’t be surprised to see Fangirl winning the George Main, and she’d have to be a very, very firm favourite in The Golden Eagle if that did materialise.
She has been a great horse for the Waller stable for a couple of preps now, and she realised her Group 1 potential with a lovely win in the Vinery Stud Stakes in autumn.
Her fresh effort for second behind Anamoe in the Winx Stakes was eye-catching and hinted at improvement, and she gets into this race extremely well under the conditions.
Another horse that will relish getting out to a mile, Profondo can fight out the finish of the George Main.
I thought that the first-up effort mustered by this son of Deep Impact to finish third in the Winx Stakes was outstanding, and the decision to race him a second time over 1400m in the Tramway seemed a little bizarre.
That proved to be the case when he could only manage a fourth placing, beaten more than three lengths by Zaaki, but fitter third-up, this looks a far more realistic race for him.
Icebath was scratched from the Tibbie Stakes at Newcastle on Friday to instead run here, and I think that she will be typically competitive.
It’s hard to believe that this daughter of Sacred Falls hasn’t recorded a black type victory at any point in her career, given how good she has been at the highest level several times, not to mention upwards of $4 million in prize money!
Zaaki’s scratching helps her cause, but she probably still isn’t quite good enough to topple the likes of Anamoe this week.
