Rosehill Gardens Tips & Preview – Saturday 2nd July

We’re off to Rosehill Gardens in Sydney’s west on Saturday for another quality ten-race program.

I’ve run the rule over the lot, and you can find my complete Rosehill Gardens Tips below!

Highway Handicap (1100m) – 11am
No. 3 Shalstar

There are several talented country-trained horses engaged in this week’s Highway race, but Shalstar is going to be the one for me.

Shalstar has made just four appearances at the races, but she is yet to turn in a poor effort, winning three and finishing second on the other occasion.

She returned from a break to score a comfortable win at Randwick-Kensington in mid-June and she will only improve for that effort.

Ned Australian Whisky Handicap (1300m) – 11:35am
No. 4 Sungblue

Sungblue was a dominant winner in Highway company at Randwick in late May, and he looks capable of striking again in something like this.

The Your Song gelding has continued to improve with racing since debuting, and there is absolutely no doubt that his last-start effort was the best of his career to date.

He’s drawn ideally this week under in-form hoop Jason Collett and I am happy to stick with him.

Midway Handicap (1200m) – 12:10pm
No. 1 Oxford Tycoon

This is a drop in class for Oxford Tycoon, and given that he has been on the improve recently, I’m pretty confident in his chances of winning.

The Written Tycoon gelding didn’t show a lot in his first two back from a spell, but he wasn’t far from the winner here two starts back and only just missed the placings a fortnight ago.

He steps out this week in peak order, gets some relief in the weights under Tyler Schiller and I’m happy to give him another chance.

Fujitsu General Handicap (2400m) – 12:45pm
No Bet

There are a bunch of non-winners engaged in this contest and despite the reasonably small field size, I can’t find anything that I am particularly confident in.

I am happy to stay out of this one from a betting perspective.

Bisley Workwear Handicap (1100m) – 1:20pm
No. 8 Petulant

Some classy horses will step out in Race 5, but Petulant has been knocking on the door since resuming, and she boasts a fitness edge over several key rivals.

The daughter of Starspangledbanner ended her debut prep with consecutive wins at Wyong, and she has only just missed in races at Warwick Farm and here at Rosehill this time.

Fitter third-up and under William Pike, she’s ready to strike.

Ranvet Handicap (1500m) – 1:55pm
No. 7 And We Danced

And We Danced has been freshened since filling the minors over 1400m at Randwick in May, and I think that she’ll prove tough to beat this weekend.

The Wrote filling has missed placing twice in eight trips to the races, and she placed in each of her two starts in May, finding form around some talented horses.

She will need some luck in running from the wide draw, but she boasts a class edge over a lot fo these rivals.

Rosehill Bowling Club Handicap (1400m) – 2:35pm
No. 2 Bella Rouge

Chris Waller holds a strong hand in Race 7 at Rosehill on Saturday, with Bella Rouge and the progressive Sur La Mer both rating as key winning chances.

The former is proven in Saturday metro company this time, however, and I am therefore going to stick with her.

Bella Rouge finished second, beaten a length by Mirra View first-up at Randwick-Kensington and hasn’t looked back, winning over 1400m at Flemington and striking here, last time.

She strikes this race in peak order and the booking of Kerrin McEvoy certainly doesn’t hinder her chances.

FAB Industrial Logistics Handicap (1800m) – 3:15pm
No. 3 Cadre Du Noir

Cadre Du Noir clearly needed his first run back this time when well-beaten by Jojo Was A Man in June, but he is yet to missing placing at this point of his prep, and I thought that he looked a bit of value this week.

The War Front gelding has been a good horse for the Maher & Eustace yard throughout his career, and races like this one have typically been his bread and butter.

He will require some luck in running from a wide draw, but it looks likely that he’ll get ideal conditions at Rosehill.

Vale Nick Moraitis Handicap (1500m) – 3:50pm
No. 4 Jojo Was A Man

Jojo Was A Man has gone to another level this time, and I really like him on the short back-up at Rosehill Gardens this week.

He struck in BM72 company at Canterbury first-up from a spell in May, and after finishing fourth behind the likes of Cotehele at Randwick second-up, he hasn’t looked back, winning consecutive 1400m races at Randwick.

He’s rock-hard fit and just needs a bit of luck to win again.

each way
Schweppes Handicap (1300m) – 4:30pm
No. 15 Overlord

I’m excited to see the well-bred Overlord make his return in the last at Rosehill in Saturday, and he’s another that looks a bit of value at current odds.

By Sebring and out of multiple Group 1 winner Red Tracer, Overlord has only recorded one win in twelve competitive appearances, but he rarely returns a poor effort, and he has found form around some good horses.

He typically keeps his best performances for when he’s fresh, and he gets into this race well under the conditions.
